Tammy, I overwinter my seedlings and new rooted cuttings in one of those little greenhouses I got from Ace Hardware and they've done just fine for several years that way. I like the little greenhouse for several reasons: they get plenty of light, keeps them warm, keeps them moist, protects them from drying wind, and you can open and close the zipper door in the spring to keep them from cooking inside or freezing at night. I keep mine against the back, south facing wall of the house all winter. Find a good sheltered spot for yours and leave them in it. Get a small thermometer so you can keep watch on the temps inside. I got one for a fish tank for a couple of bucks at Walmarts I think. Occasionally check them for water through the winter. You don't want them to dry out. They should do fine.

Thanks Mike and Karyn . I have the bubbler going, but I also have some smaller cuttings in glasses. My set up on the bubbler makes it kind of difficult for short cuttings. So I probably need to work something out and get rid of the glasses. Maybe a pot with holes to kind of hold them up out of the water ..at least to the depth that I want them at. These are my new ebay brugs, so I sure don't want to loose them. Some of them I potted up as soon as I got them without rooting them, and they are doing well. But the big problem is...where the heck to put all those pots!!

Just wanted to remind people that instead of going in the trash, the results of pruning can always be sent to others as unrooted cuttings (can they be sent in padded envelopes if one is careful?). And one need not expect a trade--some of us already have too much(!), others have nothing to trade. Hopefully there are a few people out there who will settle for postage/envelope or box and a big thank-you. Personally I'm not looking for anything at the moment, but I also have nothing big enough for cuttings--next year. I just wanted to point out that what we literally throw in the trash might be greatly appreciated by others. And all we have to do is mention it here (there's also the exchanges section). Perhaps someone could start a thread on available unrooted cuttings and people could add on from there... It could be a nice resource. Seeds can be saved for later exchanges; prunings must be dealt with immediately. And seriously, how many potential cuttings ended up in the landfill last time you pruned?

I follow the same method as Dave, except that I don't have the severe winters that he has. Our winters rarely get below freezing and that is only at night. I keep my plants in an unheated greenhouse over the winter. However, my seedlings and unrooted plants are on a heat mat with growlights. I found that plumerias respond to the change in daylight duration more than temperature. And they respond differently to the change. Some drop leaves and go dormant very quickly, while others hang onto the leaves almost all winter. Plumeria need to go dormant for at least a short while. Even those in Hawaii go dormant, but there it is more of a growth slowdown than a deep sleep. Watch your plants and follow their lead. If they retain leaves and take up water, give them a little water as long as they are retaining leaves and taking up water. If they drop their leaves, water only sparingly until they show signs of waking up in the spring. In any case, avoid overwatering in cold weather. Cold wet plumies will rot. Mike
