Pink Cones

smord

I've been lurking awhile and enjoying all the pictures of Dr. Seuss-worthy conifers (he must have been a conifer fan with all those fastigiate and pendulus cultivars...)

I've noticed that some of them seem to have these bright pink cones - which plants have those? Is it just the blue spruces? Is it all blue spruces? How long does the pink last before it turns to brown? In what season do they appear? early spring? Do they need to be pollinated to produce cones? (umm...maybe somebody can point me to a conifers-for-dummies site...)

Thanks!
