C. macropetala in the shade? Viticella?
Now I have to find a place for all my new babies (from Chalk Hill and some other vendors).
We just installed a gazebo on our backyard. It is octagonal, so I am planning to plant 7 Clematis against each wall (I have to leave one side for the entrance :o)).
I will also have a Rhododendron and a fall blooming Camellia planted on the north side of the gazebo. I was thinking about letting a couple of Clematis climb through these shrubs. They will receive 1-2 hours of the direct sun early in the morning and some bright shade to filtered light (gazebo has mosquito screens) for the rest of the day.
What will grow well in such conditions? I've never grown macropetala and viticella types.
Here are the varieties I might plant there:
Cassis Evipo020
Juuli
Tango
Sialia
Ekstra
Warszawska Nike
Pamiat Serdtsa
Syrena
Tie Dye
Viticella Wallenburg
Roogoochi
Red Cardinal
I also have texensis Gravetye Beauty and Huldine.
I've read that C. macropetala can be planted on the north side of the buildings. If you have any experience growing them in shade, please let me know. I'd appreciate any advice/info.
Thanks in advance!
