OT: What is your new years resolution?

ha ha ha leave it up to the news to come up with things to post hahahahahaha

Mine is to get that house painted!!

But mostly to work more on the OLD friendships. When changes happen in your life and you move around a lot. It can be very hard to keep up with everyone. I do miss so many and this is what I hope to do.

I am not even getting into healthy living resolutions hahahaha

now lets see ...what is YOURS?

Elizabeth, I took this from the search bar here on GW, I hope they don't mind. I refer to it often when things won't work for me. pa After you download your first picture you will see 3 lines of html underneath it. If you copy the second line, the TAG line, you can then paste that line into your forum message. Press the preview message on the forum page and you should see exactly what your message with picture will look like. I usually open two internet browsers to do this, one is open to the garden web forums where I want to submit a message and the second one is open to and I have my album open so I can download my new picture and copy the tag line. 1. open free photobucket account 2. download picture and copy TAG line 3. paste the TAG line into the message you want on the forums - and it's easier to do this if you have two browsers open so that you don't have to keep going back and forth from GW to PB, especially if youÃ¯Â¿Â½re putting in more than one picture. *********************************************************** If you would like to post your photo as a "clickable Thumbnail" ......... Put your photo on Photobucket. WHen it is there, click the little box next to the photoname.jpeg. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the large tab to the bottom right that says Generate HTML and IMG Codes You then have a choice of 4 boxes of code. Copy ALL the code from the first box (Thumbnails for ebay, myspace, etc) to the body of your message that you are posting. Then finish your message and click the preview button. I have the tendency to overwhelm myself. I'll decide that since I have ricotta I could make lasagna, then I'll decide that I should really make fresh pasta for it, then I'll decide that since I don't really like meat in my lasagna, I should also make some grilled chicken, and while I'm at it, I should cut up and roast that squash that's languishing on the counter, and then it's 9 pm, every dish in the house is dirty, and dinner still isn't ready. Thus, my resolution is to aim lower. I might operationalize this desired simplicity as follows: -at least one dish must contain two food groups (defined as protein, carb, veggie) or the veggie must be microwaved with no additional fuss or the first dish must be able to wait while the second dish is cooked in the same vessel. -dry carbs prevail: Sometimes I end up cooking two carb dishes because the meal feels too wet. If I know I'm going to want crackers or with my soup, I don't need to put rice or noodles in it. If I know I'm going to want toast with my eggs, I don't need potatoes too. -one vegetable is enough -the refrigerator should remain 25% empty, or be subjectively easy to navigate. -I will start the week with one or more of the following: washed and chopped veggies, cut up meat, raw dough, plain cooked rice or pasta. -I will use my gift card to the World Spice Merchants to buy whole spice blends. I will use them, and I will feel like my one-pot meal is legitimate cooking.

Minflick, my condolences. I can believe it's very hard, but it sounds like you're pulling through. Good luck! I have unconventional ideas about Bermuda grass. Here's how it works with me. We have patches of it here and there in the garden, which I admit is a fairly wild-looking place. Like debbym we have summers that are too hot to garden in, at least for me, and so the Bermuda grass grows all summer long before I get around to attacking it when fall arrives. Well, we don't water in summer once a plant has been in the ground a year. Our heavy clay soil and high annual rainfall allow this, though we have dry summers. I also permit all kinds of annual grass and little wild herbaceous plants to grow in the beds: veronica, vetch, annual euphorbia, etc., and I mulch the beds lightly with old hay, pruning clippings, cut grass, and so on. Between the drought, the plant competition, and the mulch (which also lightens the top layer of soil so that the Bermuda grass can't root quite so firmly) the Bermuda grass can't get so far ahead in summer that I can't push it back again in fall. I can't eliminate it, but I can keep it under control, and mostly out of the beds. The downside of gardening this way is that the roses go into semidormancy in summer. That doesn't bother me, since we have a long growing season and when it's that hot I don't want to be out in the garden anyway. And summer offers other beauties. Shade also discourages Bermuda grass. My starting point in thinking about it was that in nature Bermuda grass doesn't grow EVERYWHERE, in some places it gets outcompeted. So it has to be possible to establish conditions in which it doesn't thrive.

I understand that, Lily. Eating sugar caused the stress in my life. I ate sugar in place of real food so I wouldn’t gain so much weight. I ate it when I was happy, sad, bored, tired, stressed and when my brain needed a fix. I became unhappy, cranky, tired, and totally controlled by it. Sugar and what form I would eat that day became my first thought in the morning. It really took over my life. I wanted to quit and tried every day, but just couldn’t do it. I asked God to help me and He did. The first two weeks were the worst. The cravings were intense and I drank a lot of hot water to help relieve them. After that, it was better. I started exercising after that... 25 minutes a day on my Tony Little glider helped a lot. After two months, the cravings were gone completely. Now, I never think about sugar at all. If I eat honey or syrup, it starts up again, so I don’t use those or artificial sweeteners. I wish I could express how wonderful it feels to get up in the morning sugar free. It’s like every day is fresh and new and I am happy. I hope you can find your way to that, too. Rebecca

I don't need resolutions either. That said, Laura thinks my resolutions should be to quit the cigars, and start hauling my butt back to the gym. We'll see how that works out!

Mine is to have more time and patience with my son, forget about stupid things like career and money, which only makes me spin around like a table top and misserable.

I don't have any resolutions! I do have hopes of my bones and joints being replaced so I can get around better! I hope to have a healthier New Year!!!

Kristy there you go. Mine got me going yesterday. Painted the 3rd and final coat on the porch. Today working on the back since it will be another great day.

Bob you can not do this! I got such a nice picture in my mind with you and the cigar and your butt hahahahaha

Elizabeth now I have a question...you want to become one or overcome it? ha ha ha cause I have changed throughout the years and with being married to my prograstinating husband.

Karyn that is probably the best...cause how often do you stick with them anyways?

Lucy, definitely don't have it under control, but like others here, why make resolutions when you don't follow through, LOL! I hope to be more active and to eat better -- how's that!

My New Year reslutions are few - but I have one very important one! I'm hoping to get back into the 'swing' of things. The last month (plus) have shown me some very bad days - as most of you know. Losing 'Arrant' was quite a 'blow' for me. But hey - I'm trying!

Wanted to share something I got for Christmas from my other half & a little something I received from Joyce (luvmy3afhounds). They made my Christmas just a little easier & a little brighter! What would we do without the kindness, caring & love of others?? Let's all be thankful for the special friends we've made here on gardenweb!!

I also want to take the time to thank everyone who sent cards, ecards, and their prayers & thoughts during that difficult time! I appreciated it very much! :)

Now - on with the New Year!!

Mike we can swing together...that is what friends are there for!

Need a break. So I figured what better way to get back some energy but to come here and relax a moment. Gosh I hate cleaning an over cluttered messy garage :-(

hmmmm..I'd have to say mine is like ever year..quit smoking..one of these times I WILL!!! :/
And this year I am most def going to get a flu shot! If I get sick again like I just did, I think it might kill me..this one damn near did.
