Good morning all. Lucy, your dat is beautiful and it looks great pointing up to the sky! What do you use the milk jugs for? I think I have one out back that I had water just to sprinkle on some small potted plants, but that's about it.

Eloise, I don't know what Lucy uses the jugs for, but I have a hunch it is for winter sowing.

Ingrid thanks for answering. That is what I want to use it for a 2nd time of winter sowing. Did pretty good last year.
Got 3 more shop lights yesterday and am ready to start seeds indoors also lol

From now on I store the milk jugs with the lid off.

What variety is that datura? It's so pretty.

The milk jugs are used for winter sowing. You cut the top half almost completely off. Poke some drainage holes in the bottom, fill with soil, plant your seeds then put the top back on. After that you ignore it until it begins to warm up. Some seeds will have already sprouted and be a fairly good size while others will just be coming up. The first year I tried winter sowing I had a couple hundred containers on the deck and I had put too many seeds in each container not realizing how high the germination and survival rate is. I had thousands of seedlings and couldn't bring myself to compost the extras. I ended up potting them up and put an add on Freecycle. I got rid of everything. Freecycle is a great way to get rid of extra plants. I even had people come over and dig up an old lily bed that I wanted to get rid of but didn't want to dig myself. I put an add that said "free daylilies, you dig" and got loads of replies.

Karyn that might be what I have to do with the hundreds of triple yellow and purple Dats I just sowed in TWO containers . ha ha ha ha I KNOW better lol.

But, I harvested the seedpods AFTER a frost. Taking my chances that some might sprout. MY luck...they ALL WILL like yours roflmao

Karyn it is that huge tall growing Datura. Now dead :-( But stems look still solid. So I will not cut it down. who knows....But depending on the weather...it came up with so many different shades of color and sizes....just not another double this season.

Thanks Ingrid, Karyn and Lucy for the info on milk jugs. One question, so do you sow and leave the jugs outside or do you keep them indoors? I might try it, but not if I have to keep them indoors!

Karyn, good way to get rid of stuff. I would go dig myself if it was a special plant.
