OT: POTD: Texas star Hibiscus, 1st time I see it bloom in person

Good morning

To start your day laughing:

A Really Bad Day

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half of an hour.

Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry."

"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."

"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

I have been growing Texas Star for a few years. I just love it.

That guy was having a really bad day!

That is a lovely hibiscus, Lucy! The shot of the moon is pretty neat too, I don't get good moon shots with my camera.

Princealbert and all, life is so funny at times. As I watered all plants...seeing and checking how many of those gorgeous pink swirls I got growing...I also checked the one I bought at the sales rack at Lowes a few weeks ago for almost 6 bucks...can you guess what one of em is? YUPP roflmao But I did buy the red one too. They also had the white one but it was not on sale yet and cost almost 13 dollars. Lucy

From reading the responses...I better go learn a bit more about Rock Roses. This one has very nice branching! I sure hope it will not die :-( Especially since I moved it to a new location yesterday. Cross my fingers..hope it not to die lol This morning it was hilarious! It sprinkled and I was watering. Glad I continued because it really were only a few sprinkles. Not even enough to cool me off. Kasha what a sweet *reward* for posting the POTD for everyone and hoping that it will do some good to at least ONE of you each day. I had the pleasure of finally meeting Princealbert and his sweet wife Betty today. What a treat it was! One day I really want to meet so many of you, that if ever there will be a nationwide get together...I will be there. Until then...I have to start with smaller get togethers like swaps lol Caren I am glad you like them too lol Who needs tea right? lol Pat so glad you had time for tea. I was so hung up in downloading scrapbook things from a PSP group, that when princealbert called...I had to tell him that I am still not dressed roflmao Yes it is one of the new hibiscus' I bought in spring from a co op. they finally started growing a while ago and have shown their beauty to me a few times. Wait until you see that black dragon photo!! Eloise most of these hibiscus' have very thick roundish leaves. Not really lots of them on most lol. Ingrid what a joy it was to hear from you again. Sorry that it is so cold there. But just remember what beautiful temps you are coming back home to :-) I would not worry about your angel. It always works out. Even when at first you get a shock...like I did twice after coming back from Florida...but everything is fixable!! One way or another. Tim do I smell a possible trade I can share with you after all? You know I am desperately looking for something to give back to you for all the wonderful plants you shared and sharing with me. Lucy

Kristy I can just imagine how much fragrance you must have going on at night with all those blooms. AHHHHHHHHHHHH what a beautiful sight that was. Kylie isn't it beautiful when you find SOMETHING at all in bloom :-) Rigo my friend, thanks. Kids and you still gardening together? Good morning, Lucy. Beautiful Hibiscus flower and great view of the moon.

I guess this means I'm hooked now. I used to at least get some laundry in before checking, now I go here first after watering the plants of course. Predicting 105 in San Antonio today.

I love the Texas Star hibiscus, really catches the eye! And very hardy, and easy to grow! And that moon looks like a premonition of Halloween to come. Good shot!

hey all, I am just glad I am not the guy that drank the guys drink roflmao

I don't know why I only ended up with ONE star hibiscus. I planted so many seeds at the winter sowing. So many had shared the seeds with me and I hope I can pass it on to others.

Yupp I just got done watering too a few minutes ago. But while I water, I also do a touch, talk and cleaning up of most plants lol.

Brenda good thought...not long and it will be Halloween again.

I don't know if I got the bloom wet in the morning when I first sprayed the leaves down. But a few pedals were a little deformed. I still loved it because it was my FIRST :-)

Dorothy yes I heard that. It is suppose to be a rare one.

Maybe we can trade seeds if we both get some. Would you like to grow the red one?

LOL I love the bright red color, I just got seeds for TS this year. I won't be planting them until next year. Is the flower from this year's sowing?

Yes Linda :-) That is what always amazes me when I used to see someone post pictures of their blooming plants they just sowed out during the winter or sometimes in even less time.

this year I get to be amazed about that in my own garden too :-)

The white ones are new no blooms yet.

Dorothy I believe this one is hardy here or? Coming back each year from the ground? So I better be happy with what I have.

I have noticed that I miss planted so many plants again. Tall ones in front of shorter growing ones. I wish I had grad soil and would only have to dig a hole to spread them all out. Each one getting its own place to grow so the beauty can shine even bigger!

Lets both hope for seeds and we can share it with everyone who would like to try this beauty.

I have the red one also and have given many seeds away.have never seen the white one.Please post picture of the white when it blooms.

I am pleased to say that Texas Star has been happy and hardy in NJ for five years now - got the seeds from WV.
