I just joined this forum to post a similar posting, so I'll add something here in hopes of a response. I have two olive tree bonsais that I have had since late last fall. Recently I've been leaving them outside, watering them every couple days by doing a 20-30 minute soak in a tray of water. In the last few days the leaves have rolled up tight and are feeling very dry, though not browning and not completely brittle. Does anyone have a suggestion for bringing them back? I've brought them inside. I'm not sure if I've underwatered or overwatered or baked them in our michigan heatwave. I've also been giving them a soak every 10-14 days in a water bath with seaweed/fish fertilizer (1tsp/5cups). The last thing I'd mention is that recently some sprouts have started forming in the base of one of my trees. It's weird. I don't know if a bird planted something or if these seeds were accidentally put into the soil when someone potted these bonsai. I'm including a link to pictures of my sad olive bonsai trees. Here are more...Aloe congolensis.. .another wimpy species when it comes to cold. Still, makes a great cluster of plants Aloe cremnophila also makes a nice cluster of aloes, though a much different look. These get sort of aggressive and I have to constantly cut them back Aloe dawsonii 'Jacob's Ladder' is a nice plant, but I have it growing in a lot of shade, so coloration is a bit disappointing... always flowers exceedingly well, though This is not really a recognized species... Aloe decaryi. Not sure what it's a mixture of, but sure looks great in the garden No idea what this is, but I like it. Is obviously part tree aloe as it's becoming a small tree... flowers great. One of my more interesting Aloe dichotomas... has a nice twisted trunk This is my best A dichotoma... great living bonsai plant Aloe dinteri, called the Namibian Partridge Aloe since it looks sort of like the 'real' Partridge Aloe (Aloe variegata). Aloe distans (now called Aloe perfoliata, though still can't believe it since it grows so much differently than the other forms of this plant). Aloe divariacata- one of the easiest of all the Madagascan aloes Aloe duckeri... one of the 'typical' spotted green aloes NOT from South Africa... nice flower Aloe dyeri... one of the aloes that tells me aloe season is coming, since it blooms before most of the others (September) Aloe elgonica, a nice, sturdy, easy aloe (takes up a lot of room, though, since it suckers fairly aggressively) Aloe ellenbeckii is sort of a small, somewhat uninterestint species, but nice brilliant flowers Aloe erythrophylla (red on right) and Aloe fragilis on left

Lz, You have a fabulous assortment of Aloes and apparently a lot of room (and the climate) to grow them outside. I'd take a messy landscape with these beautiful plants any day over a perfectly manicured one... A couple things. First, what is the plant just to the immediate left of A. munchii? Looks vaguely like an Haworthia, but not exactly. I WANT one, whatever it is!! And second, the last photo you have as variegata I'm pretty sure is not. This is a hybrid of variegata that I had a couple years ago that stays stout and chunky, like yours. It's absolutely gorgeous and I wish so much I still had mine. (It got beat up in a hail storm and never recovered...) I can't remember what species it was - I'll try to find out and post back. And BTW, the flower photos are to die for. You guys out in CA get such beautifully compact flowers!! **sigh** Denise in Omaha

I remebered a few days ago that the store where I bought my Tillandsias is actually a terrarium making store and they had hundreds of Succulents last time! So I went down this morning and was lucky enough to arrive the day after a new shipment came in. They had a variety of pot sizes, 1 inch plugs for 3.50, 2 inch pots for 5, and I think 4 inch pots for 8. Anyway there was a TON to chose from. I planned out the dish a head of time using toothpicks and things (I was bored okay?) So I had a good idea on how many I was going to get. Ended up getting: 4 echeverias (one might be a grapto, not sure) As small plugs so they're pretty tiny. One already has some off shoots though. I tried to figure out their ID's. Came up with E. 'Pink Pearl' E. 'Green Gem' E. 'Spruce divider' And then E. Agavoides, but I don't really think that's it. 1 Aloe. Could not figure out the species! I thought it was pink blush at first but it's very different looking. Has a pup growing at the base. 1 Gasteria 'Little Warty' Was pretty excited to see it there! It's very tiny! They only had 2 others there. 1 Senecio. I'm thinking it might be S. Cylindricus..... Got it on a whim because I was sorta going crazy 1 Crassula Perforata. Also got it during the craze. Though I wish I would have gotten the variegated version! Oh well. And 1 other that I cannot identify for the life of me... Looks nice though. Got it during the craze as well... They didn't have any haworthias there but they did have some Kalanchoes. Almost got one but I didn't.... Anyway here's the final product of an addition of 42 dollars worth of succulents: It is going to be VERY over crowded once they all 'grow up' so I'm just going to say this is a nursery pot... I guess I'll have to start a new one once they out grow it ;). I added in my Pony palm which got attacked by my cat earlier... Moved the Jade to the back and the Burros tail to the front and got rid of the Sedum. Completely remixed the soil with loads of perlite. I tried to do 50/50 of the perlite and the original mix I had in there, seems to drain really good. The aloe I bought a while back I moved it into its own pot and separated a small plant. Didn't end up putting it in the dish so I'm giving the small plant to a friend. Compelelty regret that whole purchase. Added the gravel to the top to stabilize everything. The Jade is very top heavy and the echeverias didn't seem to like to stay put! I'm excited to see how everything gets along with each other. Can anyone identify the mystery plant, aloe, and back up my others ID's? Here's the Aloe (sorta thinking maybe it's not even an aloe?)
