i recently got a braided money tree from a place in a mall, it probably stands almost a foot tall. ive been all over this site reading about their care, because i think its a beautiful plant. today i brought it outside on my porch and noticed some light white dusty looking patches on the smaller leaves. theres none on the one huge leave it has though. i dont think its mealy bugs, theyre very light and seem to run off, not cottony. a few of the smaller leaves are also getting a little crumbly on the edges. but that may be unrelated, and just due to me watering to little. i looked up a certain type of mildew it might be. but im not sure what sort of things are safe to use on this type of plant. thanks for any help p.s. i tried to take a picture right now, but its night, and my camera is horrible, ill have to wait until i can take it in the sunlight.

As you have discovered, weed and grass killer does not kill fungus. Zero only works on green plants. Mushrooms are just the fruiting body of a very large underground network; the network feeds on decaying organic matter and may cover several square meters. Is there a large piece of wood underground in that area? Did you take out a tree and leave the roots? If you want to get rid of the mushrooms you will need to dig down, discover what they are feeding on and remove it. Mushrooms will not attack or destroy a lawn, but if the lawn dies from another cause they may live on the decaying roots. Since mushrooms do no harm and will disappear once the food source is used up, most people just live with them.

What....you don't think that this fungus is CUTE? It's one of the Bird's Nest Fungi, a species of saprophytic fungi that many would call remarkable. This fungus is happily feeding on that wood mulch you've applied. It's job in the world is to 'recycle' decaying cellulose and other wood by-products. It's a GOOD thing. Leave it alone.

Thanks for the additional pix. Is the rootball hard to the touch? If so, that means it's potted in mostly peat which when totally dry, actually repels water & prevents the roots from getting any water. I don't grow this plant, but recognize possible rootball problems. If it's as I suspect, someone else will have to guide you to changing the mix. I'd be likely to just crumble the mix off w/ my fingers. Am guessing once you change the soil to whatever mix is good for them which others here may suggest (after washing & drying out the same pot) you may be able to keep the same pot.
