Clematis ID/Z9

This spring I got a 6" clematis vine marked "unidentified" at the nursery. It was $3.00 so I took a chance hoping I'd get a blue one. The vine is now about 6 feet long, very thin more like a tendril, and has one deep, deep dark violet (yipee!) flower with four petals. 5 more buds are on the end of the same tendril. Most of the leaves are an elongated teardrop shape, but a few leaves are three-parters - almost like a maple leaf but with three instead of five segments. I Googled images and saw clematis with similar flower color, but none with just four petals. Any idea what it might be from the description (can't post a pic right now)and which type it is for pruning purposes?

And, from reading how slowly they grow, better to leave it in the pot for a couple of years? How much sun if I put in the ground? The heat has really taken a toll on other plants this year, but I have a passion flower vine that blooms like crazy and only gets sun about 2 hours mid day.

Thanks for any ideas.
