Answering first question (long needled pine for Jersey shore) maybe Japanese black pine.

The pics on the link are a mixture, including (in order of decreasing needle length):

Pinus à schwerinii (a hybrid between Pinus strobus and Pinus wallichiana)
Pinus nigra (European Black Pine a.k.a. Austrian Pine)
Pinus thunbergii (Japanese Black Pine)
Pinus parviflora (Japanese White Pine)
And also some labelled 'pine' which are not pines at all!

If the pics were individually numbered, it would be easier to point out which is which, but they aren't.

If you can find a Sciadopytis (and can afford it!), it will be beautiful.

Thank you for all the information. I've looked up the trees you have all suggested and they are great choices. I also recently came across Pinus Pendula Mexicana but somehow I doubt that'll grow in my zone.

the Pinus koraiensis family of plants has long pendulous needles ....

as do the Pinus ponderosa family ....

unfortunately they are rather large plants in time.. unless you find some dwarfs .... check the ACS website for such ....

Since the five-needled pines are doing well there (parviflora, strobus, wallichiana, etc - ) and considering you want a more rounded yet wider tree, then I'd certainly consider Pinus cembra.

What a beauty! The underused PINE in American Landscapes according to a friend, and I'd certainly have to agree.

You might also try a cultivar of Lodgepole Pine / "Shore Pine" (hint hint) called 'Taylor's Sunburst' which is an amazing tree. Here's a link to one:

I have many long needle pines called Loblolly pines.
The needles are 8 -9 in. long. It is a tall tree, not wide.
If you'd like to pay just shipping, I would carefully dig and bareroot 2 or 3 for you to try. They are very beautiful trees. I would send ones about 3 ft. tall.

Might be a good idea to consider Pinus jeffreyi 'Joppi.' Beautiful long needles. Great plant habit.

Can you tell me a little more about this Pinus Pendula Mexicana that you have come accross? Can't find any reference to such a tree and as I collect weeping conifers would like to locate one. Thank you

As you suspect, there's no such thing. Probably a fake name invented by a nurseryman; my guess would be Pinus patula.

Thank you Resin. Patula is what I had suspected, but am willing to be proved wrong.

No one suggested Pinus palustris. I'm also at the Jersey Shore at the southern end. I planted this tree as a seedling in 2000. It came from Fairweather Gardens who said it was of VA provenance.

It's close to 20' right now and amazingly beautiful. It's far better looking than the pic from the natl arboretum. No cones so far but it's stunning and the only one in town (Cape May).

Pinus palustris is used in planters outside the Philadelphia convention center!
