another Root Pruning question

I just read the thread on Root Pruning and it answered many of my questions. We're planning to re-pot our Kumquat (Dwarf Nagami) this weekend after the soggy-bottom mess we made a few weeks ago into a smaller container a better size for the root ball. In Fall, we'll plant it in the ground, so this soil and pot will be it's home for only 5 or so months. I followed the basic 5-1-1 recipe but used small Orchid bark, perlite, peat, and lime.

With respect to the roots, I just want to be sure I understand that the final roots (after pruning) should fan outward as best as possible in the soil ---- is that correct?
