Should I return my Pomona Lemon tree?

It has been planted outside for eleven months now. During this time it has hardly grown at all, in fact it may be the same size as when I planted it, and just this week more than half the leaves fell off it. The leaves were always a sickly yellow green color even though I put plenty of nitrogen fertilizer and mulch on it. The one year money back guarantee expires in another month so I have to make my decision soon.

I'd take it back if you have that opportunity.

Be sure you review your planting site, as well as your planting procedures and maintenance habits before replacing it with another tree. You'll want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen again. More often than not, problems like this are due to 'operator error', if you know what I mean.

When looking at plants at the nursery, be sure to inspect carefully for any signs of insects, diseases, or just general lack of vigor. Don't ever bring something home that's not in tip-top shape.

Well i do live in south florida and we have been having really warm weather 80's so I'm hoping that it would be okay to repot because it's been so warm. We did have a big frost that came thru for two days it got down to 29 and it was cold. I now have to nurse my areca palms, frangipani, and my garden back to health. Thanks again for the help with my lemons and I know i'll be back for more advice.

I concur. I would certainly move the Meyer now. It will just be more established the longer you wait. But 2 feet may not be enough, depending upon what kind/size plum tree you have. That plum may continue to grow and in a couple of years, you're back to square one, with the plum and lemon being too close, unless you keep the plum tree trimmed. Just be sure to dig up as large a root ball as possible, try to handle the tree by the root ball, and don't lift by the trunk, as that can damage the fine root hairs. Be sure to innoculate/dust the root ball with some mycorrhizae to help the roots get established, and top dress with good compost when you transplant. Do NOT fertilize for a couple of months, to allow the roots to get re-established. Good article in the link below about the myth behind "transplant" fertilizers. Patty S. If anything, unless you don't have drainage holes, it will just stay evenly moist.If I could leave mine in rain all day too for days, I would..What does the mix feel like? Does it feel sopping wet, or just moist? I would though make sure it is getting fertilized on a regular basis at this time or that you are using a slow release one along with your regular regimen)

Just wanted to comment about citrus in Portugal. Hope you tree recovers ..Every Year in May for the past 6 yrs my husband and I visited the Algarve. Two years ago we visited a citrus orchard . Manuel the owner is awesome and extremely knowledgeable and even showed me how to graft trees.. He offered me trees but of course cannot import to Canada He has several varities of lemon and I am sure he can help you. He and his Dad wil, treat you like family.
