blood oranges do poorly in low light levels. They will need added light in the fall winter and spring to keep there leaves. If you live in arizona or other place where it is only cloudy at night and you have a large south facing window you should do ok. Better yet a lean-to greenhouse with a built in 55 F triggered root heater you'll do fine. Choose you rootstock very carefully. Some one else will have to advise you on that.

Have you thought about or already have a meiwa kumquat. You eat the whole thing. No pealling. No mess. Blood orange, know pealling, know mess. lotsa mess.

although very new to this forum and new to citrus (well after very long time want to try again) i already admired lot of your pictures ;)
i'm planning to grow all my citrus ( 2 feminello, 1 meyer, 1 tango, 1 fukushi kumquat and 1 tangelo) in a warm room with artificial lights. i'm still looking for the right lighting. the room is bright with one east and one south facing window but winter days are short and i already knew that iwil need light. temp is around 65 to 70 during the day and a bit warmer during sunny days which we have plenty in winter. i know it will be challenging to keep the pest away but with careful monitoring i hope this can be done??
i was hoping somebody in my state with experience in growing blood oranges can give me pointers as what to avoid at all cost or what to watch for.

Paint the walls and ceiling bright gloss white. It will make a world of a difference. The south window works well in the winter but the east window is near worthless. The sun rises so far south of east and by the time it rise it is really far south. The south window is useless in spring because the sun rises north of east and by the time it crosses to the south it is too vertical to shine in from the south. Best of all If you heat with oil or propane it will cost the same to heat with CFL's. So go ahead and splurge.
