I'm going nuts...

It started in April, with one Candia double white with three trunks, in a 12x15 patio. Feet that is, not yards!!

Then I cut off one trunk and made three new plants:

1 wooded cutting (from the bottom)

1 cutting about 1 ft below the "Y". Trimmed "Y" to 6".

1 green cutting right off the "Y". I mean, really green.

This was gonna be a test to see what will grow best.

All three have nubbies and roots starting. Ready to plant!!

Then I ordered from Kartuz Greenhouse ( going nuts already!!)

1 Iochroma fuchsioides

1 Iochroma cuaneum Royal Blue

1Burgmansia Charles Grimaldi.

You see, I can't wait!! I had to have these right NOW! No matter what it cost! I was hoping for an Iochroma cutting from Dimples, but this didn't work out.

Kartuz shipped my order yesterday and it should arrive tomorrow, rooted cuttings in 2" pots. I'm sooo excited!!

I'm ready, the Calif. weather is ready, my patio is ready, I bought pots and potting soil......

Only one problem: There is no more room for my patio furniture! All future parties will have to take place indoors.

This is how it starts. Oh, I have to have this one. Oh, it comes in 6 different colors, I need them all. Hmm, out of space. Vertical gardening is next. Shade plants under the sun plants. Oh no, frost. Bring them all inside (you don't have that problem in your zone). 12 people want cuttings so you have them sitting around rooting + the next dozen you started just for things you know you can trade them for. Yup, nuts. LOL

If you're nuts, so are the rest of us. There's always room for more plants!

I took the picture below at Zone 9 Tropicals in Houston last summer. The owner told me it started as a hobby that grew to take over every inch of space at his home on a small city lot. There are plants on the fence, the trees, and everywhere else there's an inch of space.

I also feel your pain danidag. We moved into our inlaws basement in October + 2 kids + 1 dog, had a baby boy in November, making it 3 kids. 2 weeks after moving in my wife's sister decided to also move back in. Luckily I work evenings! Our big benefit was that we are building a house next door and could watch it being built each day. That is also the bad side....we are building a home next door to my inlaws. Funny because we were suppose to start our build at the beginning of November and due to the bank's delays didn't start until the end of November. We have our closing set for Feb. 28th which is good since our rate lock we set back in November (a lot lower then today's rates even with the 3/8 of a point added to it back then) is up on March 3rd. I am just waiting for the bank to say....oh we forgot to have this done/filled out and you can't close now until March 4th. We also have had unbelievable weather here in Minnesota (Snowiest December on record) but our builder has been able to keep his 3-month build on schedule. I told him if everything else goes smoothly here on in, we will be the best references he has ever had. Hold in there xc60 and danidag.....there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't a train.

OWBIST I have followed all your instructions, and everyone elses suggestions. I have had a terrible day, did the HIKEY thing and the PPSFIX.Zip, that would not work with my Vista, it is only for XP. I double clicked each PPS in whatever file I was in, and everyone was set to open with powerpoint viewer. I've been in so many places on this computer today everything is just running together in my mind. I even had some kind of crash, long story but anyway the system restore file came up and said I needed to do a restore. Something I had tried yesterday that wouldn't go to previous dates. This one would not go back either to where I wanted it to go. I did get it back up and running but geeez. I am still getting "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set assoc control panel. I went there they are all set to open with powerpoint viewer. I give up, I guess I'll have to have someone fix this, I am just not having any luck. I still think when I uninstalled M.Office and PP, that something I needed for this computer was lost. That is when everything went wrong. Believe me I really am not as stupid as I am feeling or sounding right now. I can usually figure things out, never had this many problems before. I liked my old windows 98 better than this VISTA...LOL Thanks All, Nancy

Okay, it's not what you asked, but this is how I see it: There are three ways I know of to open a drawer mechanism (something that slides on glide rails): A direct pull, a lever, or a spring. Direct pull: The only thing I can think of is a bar on the bottom that one could pull with an agile foot. Not lovely. Bad idea. Next... Lever: This is what the foot pedal on the freestanding, flip top can has. Press the pedal which moves the lever which pulls the rod that the top is attached to and flips it up. On a cabinet pull out one could put a pedal on a lever but it would have to push the drawer assembly. That's hard. it would take a big lever or a mighty kick. Bad idea. Next... That leaves us with springs and tension: I've read a description here of the Hafele that said that it operates using a bungee type system (the bungees being the springs). That is, press the pedal to release the latch which is holding tension on the bungees. The bungees are released and spring to their point of least tension, which is open. Works well. Good idea. I also read hear about a pressure latch on a trash pull out, where one could bump the door with one's hip and the latch would release. Same principle as above, though it could be done with or without the bungees. Without bungees or similar the only spring is in the pressure latch. That's likely fairly small and just gives it a little push, though I haven't seen it and don't know for sure. If so, it would only open an inch or two and require one to open it the rest of the way oneself. Either way, good idea. If the Hafele latch doesn't fit on your rails or whatever, you could probably get a good tinkerer to adapt it, or get someone to copy the idea.

For the walls, I would go safe and pick one shade darker than the tiles. It matches and it would brighten up the kitchen. For the hardware, I would do oil-rubbed bronze (venetian bronze) or iron. Brushed nickel would look nice but wouldn't match the style of cabs (drawer pulls would look nice). I would then buy lighting to match your hardware. For the cabs, if you were staying I would definitely say to paint them but since your not then leave them alone. I just finished staining mine and I would NEVER do that if I was on my way out. I would buy a good wood cleaner and give them a good cleaning. One last thing you might consider is getting a nice faucet. Something special (also matching the hardware). It's jewelry for the kitchen in my opinion.

I forgot. When you run out of outside space, you get lights so you can grow them inside.

I am putting a lot of things at my best friend's again next year. She has a brown thumb & lots of empty space. I store my Brugs in her basement every year (over 200 of them + other plants last year). Look for a new friend with a large empty yard (preferably within walking distance to save on gas). LOL

You could just accept that the patio now belongs to the brugs (who need a few more relatives for company of course).
But just think of when you do your indoor entertaining and open the door to your patio jungle and blooming brug perfume fills your domicile.
...might be worth the loss of that space

LOL Ingrid, you are well on your way with this addition! BTW, "brown thumb" refers to a person that can't hardly grow any plants or kills them. It's opposite of "green thumb" where what you grow thrives, like Lucy!

Ingrid I faintly remember you mentioning that ONE Brug is all you have room for. roflmao how quickly we forget about all of that when we see that there is so much more out there lol

Of course the 1st will ALWAYS be special :-)

My cuttings from Kartuz Greenhouse were shipped Monday but didn't arrive until today, Friday. Because of the holiday, I guess. I was worried about them, but they look OK.

They sent an extra Iochroma "Sunset" (orange) that I had listed as an alternate, but they sent it anyway.
I now have 6 Brugmansia and 4 Iochroma. I think I'm gonna have to move soon.

Eloise, Brugs: I only got one Charles Grimaldi but I have 4 rooted cuttings of my Candida Double white, plus my original Candida = 6 brugs.
Sorry, I only have 3 Iochroma : Fuchsioides, Cyaneum and Sunset.
