dinosaur food in South Carolina?

Has anyone grown this plant in South Carolina? I have seen pictures in magazines but have never actually seen it grown.

I understand that it is also referred to as chinese rhubarb - I have not been successful in growing rhubarb here. Any info welcome - thanks
