Light emitting diodes (LED) are a type of semiconductor, similar to transistors and diodes. They operate on direct current, typically around 2 volts. LED's are more efficient than incandescent light bulbs, and have similar energy efficiency when compared to fluorescent lamps. Since LED's operate on direct current, they are well adapted for use in battery powered portable flashlights. To my knowledge, LED's are not cost effective when compared to compact fluorescents for interior lighting. I'm not sure that white LED's will ever be cheaper or more energy efficient than fluorescent lamps. I am not aware of any underlying physical reason that would make white LED's use less energy per unit of light output. If you have a source of dc current, then it might make sense to light your interior with white LED's, and avoid converting your power to alternating current, a necessary step for fluorescent lighting in this instance. If you are using alternating current off the grid, then there is no advantage to using white LED's for interior lighting at this time in history.

Sombreiul, I'm not sure what you mean about the top being abbreviated and it having a higher crown, but I looked at the top and I don't see any evidence that anything else was ever attached to the top. No screw holes or glue or anything. As far as the pins on the "decal", their are little gold nail heads or pins on each side of the decal. Linda, I took pictures of the back of the handles and the key from the lock. The handles do hang off the sides on the front but that might be because one door is raised on the edge and the handle would not lay flat. Maybe they moved the other over to match? The key says "ASRO" and under that it says REG and a D with a dot under it REG IN UK and on the back says British Made.

The brand is Armstrong I found this info on a label on my system. Packaged furnace - gas, a/c Direct vent forced air unit with cooling unit Type msp Cooling 970 seer 64hwc242a-gb Does this tell me more about the quality of my system. I assume that this system belongs in the 3rd or lower tier. Do I now call this system a HVAC unit. I assume that there is no heat pump involved in this unit. Yea...Right...Novice questions I know... but you have to start somewhere. Thanks
