Cut my clems back today. When do I do it again?

Brown thumb in training here...

I planted my first clems in February, all type 3's. I cut them back today per the advice of this forum. I cut them down to approx. 12 inches, maybe less, to promote new growth.

So now I don't prune them again until next February? I realize that type 3's have to be pruned, while they are still dormant each February, but my question is this...for how many years do I continue to prune them during the growing season to promote new growth and healthy roots? Is it the first three years? What "schedule" should I follow to prevent leggy clems?
