Best horse chestnut (Aesculus) tree for the Piedmont

What is the best Aesculus tree species for growing in the Piedmont? Although the shrubby natives A. sylvatica and A. pavia grow well, the European horse chestnut gets leaf diseases when you try to grow it in the SE. How well and disease prone is A. octandra when grown outside of its native NC mountains? How about southern Asian horse chestnuts such as A. turbinata and A. indica?
