Do you want to grow just the tree, or do you want peaches off of it? Dwarf Peach trees are hard to find in Canada - there are a few Anerican places, but then you'll have to pay $25US or more, plus the cost of a phytosanitary certificate. You'd be lucky to get one for under $75CDN. If you have an elaborate setup, your tree might live through the winter, but when mature it'll still be 8-12 feet tall - can you protect that? How late do you get frost? A late frost could kill off vital flower parts, meaning you won't get any fruit forming. Also - a more important consideration is that you're unlikely to ever get any edible peaches off of it. You probably don't have enough heat over the summer to grow and ripen any peaches properly. Peaches like heat, even the hardy varities are rated for two to three zones above yours. I know what it is to want to try something really badly, but you have to decide if it would be worth the cost to try this experiment. I would recommend you research another fruit to try. I have come across a couple of places in the US that offer them, and if you want I can go hunting for them and see if they ship to Canada. BP

This is great to get some responses. Thanks so much! So you all can see it is a bit difficult to find some that are not your "usual" varieties. I am still on the hunt and have posted a message asking for feedback on the whites I am considering. I went to Grobe nurseries on the road to Guelph and they have said they will try to special order some for me when I decide. So, stay posted and I will let you know if in fact they manage to come up with some that are not so common (most whites aren't common at all I am finding out)I am also looking for a Venosa Violacea. Sounds like Sharon should start propagating hers and become our new source in SW Ontario! Good for you. My Mother lives in Windsor and I was raised in Amherstburg so I will be looking when I am there to visit. Thanks again. The Greenspot and Patmore's are the two nurseries in Brandon. As far as I know neither of them do mail order, they are just local nurseries. Lindenberg's and McFaydens are based out of Brandon. Both do mail order as their businesses. Lindenberg's has a small outlet store where I can buy the perennials at regular price and then reduced come the beginnning of June. (Pretty soon, yah!) But, McFaydens closed their local retail store when new owners took over about 1 1/2 years ago. So, there isn't even the large spring and fall sales available to go to anymore. The clematis that Lindenberg's carry are in little 3 x 3 inch pots and that is the size McFaydens used to carry. I tried some of them when we first moved to the acreage and I thought it was just me...that I could never grow clematis here on our acreage. But, when I bought a few 1 gallon pots miraculously they all made it and I will always buy that size again. As far as the varieties available at Walmart or Canadian Tire or Home Depot...if you see one you like, buy it, take it home and google the variety. If it is a zone 3 or 4, keep it. If a zone 5 return it. They have no problem with returning plants. I have done it. The clematis in Walmart and Canadian Tire and Home Depot are just the same size in the gallon pots as the ones at the Greenspot (which are double in price) and so, I would rather pay the 1/2 price. Hi folks As of March 2002 ,it's a lot easier to get plants sent to Canadian address from continental USA.The only thing you have to do to pass custom is to buy a phytosanitary certificate for your plants if you want to receive your plants by mail.I chose to drive to an American nursey down south,pick up a few plants and drove home.No phytosanitary certificate is required if the plants are with you at the time you cross the border.I have been doing this many time the most plants I took home at one time was 20 plants,the most plants allowed for each trip is 50 .If you don't believe me you could check out yourself at www.inspection.gc.ca .Have fun
