weeping pussy willow tree.....help

I received a weeping pussy willow tree in a pot, purchased from Whole foods. The tag said to leave it in the pot for the first year before putting it in ground. I transplanted it to a larger potand have kept it in the house. It goes thru a stage of being ok, and then it seems to lose it's leaves. Then it'll grow some back. Does this sound normal? Am I doing some thing wrong? All my other plants seem to be doing fine, just having the problem with this one. Also, since the year is up, could I plant it in the yard soon? What kind of sun/shade does it need?
