To the above excellent advice, I would add the following: 1. Any Mexican/Key lime grafts will be *significantly* less hardy than the "Meyer" lemon stock. So any grafts would probably do better if they were protected by "Meyer" lemon growth above -- such growth would tend to act as a protective umbrella during freezes. However, as mentioned above, the grafts would probably be less vigorous than the "Meyer" branches and shoots. So the best practice would be to graft the lime onto apically dominant stock shoots. The problem is, of course, that the most apically dominant portions of your existing tree will be found at the top of the plant! So you need to find a balance. You might, for example, find a vigorous, watersprout-type shoot, and then trace it down to its base, cut it off low, and put a graft on there. (Or, if you prefer, t-bud some lime down there, and then cut the shoot off.) 2. Meyer lemons are quite ornamental. Mexican/Key limes are much less attractive. They're rather twiggy/scrubby in appearance. Even if you like that look, any lime grafts would be quite difference in appearance than the stock plant growth -- so they would probably stand out, and might mar the ornamental value of your tree. The ideal way to get around this is to put the lime grafts on whichever side of the "Meyer" that is least visible from your house or yard.

citrus can take MONTHS N MONTHS to ripen. some have said 7-12 months for some varieties. Its all about being patient... and its HARD. I have a calamondin, that has fruit a bit bigger than a golf ball and they've just stopped growing, the one looks to be starting to ripen, we'll see. hoping its not gearing to drop off on me. Just frustrating as these will be my first fruits off a tree I grew... it did come with fruit, but that doesn't count. these... I've grown from flower to golf ball. citrus do not ripen once off the tree... so leave on till they ripen. They'll eventually turn yellow. :) Congrats on your lemon... I can't wait till my lemon flowers and fruits... it has several flower buds on it... so maybe this fall I'll have lemons the size of yours... then just to keep alive through the winter! yikes!

Took pics. Last year the foliage and fruit was so abundant that I could not see into "it" But now having pruned it and taking pics...I see that it's actually TWO trees! Here is the pic of one trunk... Clearly the ground underneath needs to be cleaned out and all the ferns removed. There is also a little "volunteer" tree growing out of it that needs to go. I do feel that these trees were doing better when it was left alone....the previous owners were there 8 years and never fed it or paid much attention to it. All the trees are starting to fail....could they be too old...(there are also two pink grapefruits, some sort or orange and some sort of "quat" maybe a loquat. .one of the grapefruit trees was great...and now that seems to be dying...but I think that's because the original owners put a tomato cage around it when it was a tiny tree and it actually cut into the trunk...it's wounded)

I have three indoor meyer lemons. This pic is the aphids on one right after being sprayed with Bonide. I brought them in at the end of summer and they now for winter live a few feet under my T5 lights in the living room, which they seem to like quite well. They are all a foot or so high and probably 1-3 years old. I have pruned some but not lots. They've never had actual lemons. I bought them this spring and they easily doubled or more over summer. One of their siblings in my office at work has one big lemon but has never flowered at all on my watch so far,oddly. The three at home have been flowering for a few months; one seems to have finished and the other two have many clusters. Leaves are fairly healthy; medium to dark green; a few have those twisty-curly spots and bumps but not most. However, almost all the flowers fall off, often before they even open. It seems these should be the precursors of lemons, and they are all falling off!! ??? why are all the flowers and buds falling? As a separate issue, I also keep getting aphids; clusters appear on the flowers and then I spray them and wipe off and they return later. I say separate because even the buds with no aphids all all are falling. And I've also got what I think are intermittent fungus gnats - multiple tiny little guys in the soil and edges of pot. I have tried using Neem spray, on the soil and tried letting it "really dry out" before watering. Also tried a nastier spray a while back. Nothing totally clears them although the gnats aren't too bad right now but keep resurrecting; i know that's partly their life cycle but i have taken most recommended steps. I can't let the lemons totally dry out I'm already worried about the roots due to the gnats. Yikes, so many issues.
