Stawberry Tree not looking so good...
Comments (9)winter damage of some kind.. whatever that mean to you in san diego .. any cold snaps.. like the rest of us?? i will guess its evergreen for you ... those are old leaves.. and could have been damaged by the transplant.. just a little worn out.. and tired ... the future is in the buds.. and this springs budding out.. how do those look ... did you bone up on proper watering???? no tree needs water every few days... ever .. especially at depth ... water the darn tree when it needs it.. inset finger to 3 inches.. and dont water it again.. until it is dry at that depth.. or hot.. meaning it will dry soon ... dont worry about the amends.. just dont do it next time.. and never fert it ... and finally .... next time... dont buy a tree that tall.. with that wimpy a trunk ... you went a bit toward instant gratification.. rather than a strong trunked tree ... good luck ken...See MoreLooking for Navelina Navel Orange & Xie Shan Mandarin Trees in CA

Comments (4)The only trouble with taking the advice of a nursery regarding watering is they have no idea your planting location, soil, subsoil, pitch and sunpath. They also don't know how much water the area you plant in gets from other yards and (if you have it)your sprinkling system. Tulip poplars give off a lot of seed in the form of winged spikes that slip down into the lawn or forest floor just making slight contact with soil,if at all. They'll sprout and reach for the dark moist soil and suddenly you have a lot of them. Lift your tree , replant it higher and leave off the mulch for now so the young roots can get some oxygen exchange. If possible, plant it on a slight slope..they like that....See MoreMandarin Tree Still not doing so great
Comments (9)Sorry guys. Live in Auckland, New Zealand. Not too hot at the moment. With the stick thing. I have tried it a few times and still never sure if it is wet or dry. Maybe I should be conservative and if any doubt give it another day or so. Do you use bamboo sticks to test for dampness of the soil?...See MoreDWD2
