Patterns Revisited

There's something about a plant that attracts us or I guess we wouldn't enjoy this hobby. For some the flower holds our interest. Others enjoy a fragrance, while the pattern or appearance holds our interest. As many of you appreciate, Echeveria flowers aren't much although they do last a long time. For me their beautiful patterns and colors peaks my interest in this genus. I trust you will enjoy some of these.

Jeanne, beautiful display. I love these dishes! Your matching lamp is a wonderful addition. After reading about the toy truck bank, that's where it belongs for sure. BTW, thanks for sharing that with us. Your window/glass decor w/birds in front is so pretty. I enjoy drinking Hazelnut creamer in my coffee so bet that neat candle smells great. I really like the cocoa fireside fragrance that is out now. We get alot of comments with people walking into our office. I'm hoping to get my rolls and pie crusts made this weekend. Will also be doing the rest of my grocery shopping if I can get out. We are suppose to get a big storm and temperatures of -20 tomorrow night so not looking forward to that. CEF, piping is actually easy! I made yards and yards of it yesterday in class. And I have sewn maybe 30 minutes in my whole life. I made buttons too. There are machines for everything! Decordummy, I am in love with the palette in this remnant that will go on the back of DR chairs. Found it after I decided on colors and they are all spot on. This is from my little book I made to carry around. I got tired of dragging around the bag-o-house. I'm working on a whole house so I have to stay a little organized. And here's a couple I'm considering There are some that don't photo well, like a burlap with a stripe, some solids and this woven tweedy one - hey, that rosey middle explains why my driftwood pix look pink! And these are the SW paint color chips of the colors in play I'll be using more of the blues in wall color and the painted furniture pieces.

marti8a - That doll does look properly horrified, doesn't she? It's a working garage space, not a house tour. jessicaml - The worst that can happen is I say "Ewwww" and repaint. I'll tone down the labels, to make them look like they've been there for decades, getting scrubbed and polished. There's a laser printer transfer technique that makes things look aged. Florantha - Putting "the right side of tasteful" and "1880s New Mexican mining town" in the same sentence doesn't happen very often. :) The design goal for this place is "Taos Hippy Colony/ Vintage New Mexico / Boho Ethnic Moroccan". That multi-pattern random tiling is traditional. It's called "azulejos del cementerio" (cemetery tiles) because they came out of "the cemetery" what in English is "the boneyard", the pile of leftover bits of materials from other projects. After the main rooms were done with patterened field tiles and borders, the servants quarters and kitchen were done patchwork with the leftover tiles. Faux tile colors are still TBD, and will probably be softer, more like faded denim, coral, and manganese purple than what I showed. Probably with some solid colors. I need to toss a bunch of paint chips onto the countertops and see what looks good. Again, the worst that can happen is I grab the roller and paint over it. The countertops are already there, and will stay for budget reasons. They aren't as intense as seeing the sample on the screen makes it appear. It's a good match for the local mountain's rocks as seen from town ... all muddled peach and mauves. It is not an eat-in kitchen. Right now the dining area has pinkish-beige plush carpeting, pale milk chocolate woodwork, ivory curtains, and cream walls ... a bland collection of clashing beige undertones.

Sande, those look like your bar stools! It's hard for me tell what the BS is in this pic. Some sort of tumbled stone maybe with dark insets. Counter does look like TB, though! Thanks, brianadarnell. I like darker grout, too. Can you elaborate on why you are leaning towards the Candlelight subways? Here was my design consultant's "two cents" on the brown glass: "I really like the brown glass tile. It does not matter that the color is close to the wall color, that actually makes it interesting since the color is close but the texture totally different. The crackle finish is nice but not much of a "pop". The glass tiles trend in and out but since this tile is a solid color rather than a busy pattern it is a bit timeless." She has also liked Trigo ("the matte gives you another texture") Candlelight ("will keep your cabinets 'warm'") and the $95/sq. foot tile board w/the ropey looking trim ("ties everything together...floors, etc.").

Julie, many of these are Dick Wright hybrids, 'Raindrops' being one of them. I don't know the
parentage but if you write Mr. Wright (wrightnursery@msn.com), he might reply. He has ALWAYS
been very kind to me in his replies. It may take several days to hear from him as he
continues to grow plants and carry on a business by himself at age 85, as he says.

Some of these were found at a local nursery while others I got from Tina Zunker at http://www.succulents.us/echeveriaraindrops.html. Tina has some very nice
Dick Wright hybrids. Keep in mind these are
not for the faint of heart, financially!!!!!! I paid dearly for many of these. NB: This is NOT an
advertisement or promotional plug for her; just answering your query.

I have recently beheaded several of my
Dick Wright hybrids and should have a few
offsets by next growing season.

You can purchase Mr. Wright's plants from him for a "Price". He has an eBay store,

Howard, I'm going to put in an order with Tina. Does she bare root her plants for shipping or do they come in a pot with soil? I have seen her site before but didn't know what reputation her company had. Did your plants from her arrive in a timely manner and were you satisfied with the quality?

Yes, Howard...King of the Echeveria...You should've taken my 'Truffles' while we were talking about it awhile back...because is it gone now! ;(

We use to have a forumee who held that title, but he no longer frequents this one. His name was Brad. Went by the moniker Paracelsus. You guys would've had a blast talking shop about Echies! It's a shame he isn't around anymore.

Thank you, but I certainly not the Master of Echies! Trust me I've knocked off my fair share over the years. I will say I'm embarking on a new course with all my Dick Wright hybrids. I only hope I lifelong enough to see them develop into the magnificent plants they are. Mr. Wright is truly THE MASTER.

Those are so cool,i really like that one that's by itself in the 2nd row of the first set of pics.looks like polka dots to me.Love all the different kinds of bumps,very interesting.

Julie, I'm not any more an enabler than the next person. Some have asked where I've purchased plants and I am glad this forum allows this kind of information exchange without some "prima donna" having a disjointed nose! I know you'll like what he sends as I have so many. Keep in mind what you will receive is NOT an adult mature plant. It may take a few years and some beheading before it "looks" like what you expect. Having said this, the two you've purchased tend to develop their "character" at a rather young age. And, if you like these, he has some other great caruncled plants as he is the Master of Caruncles!!!!

Christy, Mr Wright ships bare root as do many vendors. He will also ship fresh cut plants, as long as you are comfortable with rooting them. These are not for the faint of heart.
