'Gold Nugget' or 'Trovita' for s.f. bay garden?

14 years ago

I'm considering one of these two citrus for my garden,

I love seedless mandarins, and "Gold Nugget" is said to not need heat to sweeten.

I've read that the only orange that reliably produces sweet fruit in the San Francisco Bay area, is called "Trovita"

-Has anyone on this site grown one or both, where winters are cool?

I'd like to know more about;

-health. I use organic methods and means.

-requirement for water.

When possible I cultivate for mild to moderate drought tolerance, and plant the same plants that share similar water needs together.

My Improved Meyer Lemon is in partial shade and is espaliered. I only water it and most of my antique rosebusehs c. once a month during summer and more rarely in the other 3 seasons, when there is rain. I'd like a citrus that has a similar watering requirement.

Frost is very rare, where I live and I've only had to cover my Improved Meyer Lemon once over the last 15 years.

Would either of these citrus do well in Oakland, California?

Thanks very much,

Luxrosa
