I think I killed my orange tree

HELP,

I heard that if you cut the ends off of the branches where the curled up leaves are and wait for new growth, then spray with malathion that it would control the bugs and let the new growth take hold.

I did this and it looks like i sprayed it with "Round-up"!!

ALL the leaves turned brown and are dropping off, the new growth withered and the oranges left are shriveling.

My local garden shop said water in epsom salts immediately and them water in citris fertilizer.

It was a very healthy and prolific tree until i sprayed.

Could i have over-sprayed? I did use old malathion that I had pre-mixed last season.

This tree was a gift from my Mother-in-law
