Some are in the pop up greenhouse by night, then outside by day..Just a few examples..

Thank you. My Oro grapefruit is loaded with fruit as are many trees with buds and fruit.. Also a have afew plumeria photos and orchids mixed in..Along with my Jade..:-)

Mike, you use a version of the 5:1:1 correct? Maybe you can give us a picture of your greenhouse? I need ideas for the fall.

I don't really get pest issues from taking plants outside (unless it's something that's REALLY pest prone. Hi, you stupid A. Squarrosa*. Fortunately, none of the aphids or whiteflies this thing got ever spread). The high humidity outside keeps mites in check. Scale and mealies... I don't see those much around here, and bringing those in on and infested plant from the store is far more likely. I DO tend to get a lot of spiders. I stopped caring about bringing those in with me, so a fringe benefit of growing plants has been that my arachnophobia has improved a lot. Anyway, I'm moving to an apartment next year for gradschool. No dorm means no going home for the summer means no putting plants outside. I think I'll be okay for the most part, except for a few things: * Delonix regia - This doesn't really make a good houseplant, and it's pretty much deciduous. It's actually stayed more-or-less in-leaf this year, but it needs to be outside to get properly leafy. * A. Squarrosa - This doesn't seem to make a good plant indoors or out, although outside it actually grows beyond just replacing old leaves. * Blechnum gibbum - Way too dry for these indoors. It seems perfectly capable of surviving half the year in a fairly brown-and-crispy state, but it *needs* summers outdoors. I might have to set up a humidity tent for it or something. * Pineapples - A little too dry indoors for them, and they need full sun to really grow. Also they're sort of huge. * Key lime - It doesn't grow well indoors. It does okay and won't die, but it just does better outside.

Hello Everyone, Dave, We must have been posting at the same time because i missed your post. That Miami Rose will be a challenge, but im up for it!!! Im glad we didnt keep those dates anyway, since the weather didnt work out!!! Lets try for this fall when we are going to get things ready for the winter. I would love to try sometime in Sept. But things are so crazy now, im thinking Oct will be the best time. Ill email you later when it will b good for you!! Thanks Dave!!! Neysa, Thank you for thr kind words.. The Adeniums (Desert Roses) are very unique indeed!!! They do have their own personality. I find that they are easy to take care of. Full sun during the summer and i treat them somewhat like the Plumies during the winter. Limiting the water intske. But the Plumies receive less water then the DR's during the winter. I feed them in the summer just like the Plumeria and i water themm more often as well. (summertime) Especially since they are in the "AL's Gritty Mix" This mix is a very fast draining mix. Karen= water is fine and so is superthrive and SNG which are more tonics than fertilizers. Stop watering when the leaves are all gone. Misting is fine on leaves just cut the Bill's fert. out Your plants have enough to keep flowering but a shot of very cold can cut the flowers. Bring in at night will protect and keep the flowers going. I bring in the house because it is 70 degrees whereas under a cover or in a garage is much cooler. This is only for plants I am trying to see the late flowers on. Any regular plant is ok under a cover or in a garage especially (Joe)in Huntington Beach where you can just leave plants out because you almost never really get a hard frost. It is a real pain to move twenty seedlings or plants inside every night and then back out in the morning. And I remember thinking, is this marine layer going to burn off or not at dawn before I went to work. However, the extra growth I got for the effort was eventually worth the work.

Hey Laura,thank you! I hated SO MUCH to break down the plastic sheeting over the rods I made as a temporary greenhouse almost like a hoop one made of P.C pipes...The sun would create heat in that green house and send all the fragrance of the flowers into the open door to that tent right into my home every day...Like hot air filling my house with sweet smells. I will, miss that. The worst part as Sammers said was bringing them in. I don't worry about them outside even when it's cold, but I worry about the inside with no bright open skies....Ugh Calamondindave, I thank you so much. It is just like that! I will miss it for sure. I HATE winter! I was thinking, why don't you make like a hoop greenhouse from P.V pipes like I did right up against the warm side of your home? You made never have to bring them inside even in cold nights..Just use a little space heater!

Meyermike, did you or Andrew mention previously that you grew blood oranges in a pot too? I didn't see it in the above pictures. Wanted to confirm that we can grow a dwarf blood orange tree in a container. :-) Thanks a lot !!!

In one word AWESOME!!! I have mine in for now. They are calling for frosts or very close to a freeze for the next few days. My poor Moro was coming around but it was to weak and died.:( That was before I knew about Mikes Mix. I am confident that my Keylime, Improved Meyer and Oro will come thru.

Yes, I use the 5.1.1.mix in some, and the gritty mix on others..It depends on my mood at transplanting time..lol
I will post a pic of the popup greenhouse tomorrow for you..It is nothing much.It is just a cheap 8x10 that has been my life saver I tell you.

I will post a pic of my blood orange for you..I forgot about him..I actually repotted it into an almost all bark mix with a bit of perlite and peat the other day.

Pug! How are you???? I have missed you around here in these parts..How are your plants doing in them fancy Bonsai pots? How are you citrus doing? I would love to see a couple of recent pics of them after a long colder than normal winter there. Please post a couple. I would love to see them. Also please, if you could, let me know the place of the Mango you bought yours again at, since I seem to have lost the info..Thank you! You should see how well the Jade you sent me is doing!

Andrew, thank you! Now that you have learned about open and breathable, durable mixes, I am sure your trees are going to do great! If I were you, I would set my trees out in the am when the sun comes up, if above the mid 40's, and bring them in at night before the cold settles in..It gets them acclimated to the weather out there alot sooner, and they will respond much better. I have been doing this for days now. Actually for years prior. Mine love the sun, even if it is the 50's by day..

Sorry to hear about the, YOU ALMOST SCARED ME, I thought you said "Oro" you lost, but the "Moro" you lost..:-(

Wow. You're my citrus Hero! LOL... but seriously your jade and citrus is a heavenly shade of green and beautiful to look at. You also do a very good job of inspiring and motivating me to get my citrus to set fruit! I'm gonna go through and re-read some of your older threads. I need my blossoms to not drop!
Your plumeria cuttings are looking mighty spectacular too! How old are they? Did you use Al's gritty mix? I also see one that's grafted, did you graft it yourself?
