Uh, oh. That white web-looking thingy looks like a mealy web to me. Mealy bugs, or wooly aphids, are a bane to many plants, including succulents.

One way to get rid of mealies is to spray them with an insecticidal soap. Spray the plant (especially the parts with the mealies) with the soap solution and let it set. You probably also want to spray the soil as well. Keep the plant out of direct sunlight while it is wet with the solution. I forget how long to do this for...

I should note that this doesn't always work. I have a rather impressive mealy infestation throughout the majority of my plants right now, and nothing I've done has had any effect on them. If the whole of the plant becomes infested, you're better off tossing the plant. :(

I just pop a cactus spine off a nearby cactus and poke through them and pull them off. Maybe take a while, but it works like a charm. Or if its on a sturdy plant like a cactus, i use jet to blast them away.
BTW, you should slowly introduce that plant to more sun, its looking a little etiolated.

Mealy web! x.x Oh, I don't like le bugs >CG, how would I know if the whole plant is infested? Does that mean the plant would be at least covered with this web-like thing? I read about mealy bugs since you mentioned it and they said I could see the bugs under a magnifying glass - I would try that.

I do not have any sort of insecticide at the moment since I am new to succulents. I will make sure to get an insecticidal soap, thanks! By the way, is it wise to spray all my other plants as well even though they do not have the mealy web (or maybe I just could not see the mealy web yet)?

I am tempted to poke them as well but I wonder if that will cause them to scatter? o.O
The plant is actually a cutting so it is not sturdy at all as it is still developing roots. Also, it already looks like that when I got it.

i tried neem oil and eucalyptus also, high strength, neither one phased them.
I did as CG suggested, removing them physically.
i useed an old toothbrush with alcohol/neem 50/50
to kill any eggs etc...

you might even try hydrogen peroxide.
shouldnt hurt the plants or the roots
it actually helps roots that arent getting enough oxygen.

mealy bugs/soft scale has been bad in my yard this year. While poking them with a thorn gives a certain satisfaction it isn't real practical! I had a papaya over hanging some of my succulents and there was a bad infestation on the papaya. I cut the papaya down (in too much shade) but I have to keep a look out on my succulents in the area.

Hoyas have mealies & some of my agaves this year too. I like to use Imidacloprid as a drench otherwise I just could not get control. It doesn't work on everything but it is a standby for me. For non-food 'crops' I like it.

Bayer tree and shrub/ with fertilizer has imidaclopid in it. I'm not wild that it has the fertilizer in it. Also available under the label Merit. A little pricey but will go a LONG way. Merit available from agriculture supply.

Might just be a spider web.
Check inside, and see if a spider is sitting there...or its eggs.

I've had "success" with a dish soap & water mix, and also with just blasting them off with water in the sink ... or a combination of both. If there's only one or two spots, just wipe the area clean with alcohol, and maybe dab some in creases where the critters may be hiding.

I put the quotations because, while it does solve the problem for a while, they always seem to pop up again. I think I'm not being thorough enough, and not giving them a good spray or rinse in the sink often enough to get all eggs, larvae, and bugs gone for good. I confess I'm a bit too lazy to rinse all of my plants at once; it would take too long.

From the photo , it looks like a spider nest . If outside , it lives , if indoors , it's gotta go. JMHO

I use rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, but vodka or some other high-octane booze works too. Spray daily for several days, and keep the bottle close by to spray again as soon as you see them return.

OMG don't waste the vodka on the bugs!!!!!

Thank you! Yesterday, I only saw this one spot but today, I think one of the other leaves is starting to have the webby thing also :/ I will try the dish soap and water mix since that is the only ones I have available for now. I hope rinsing it will help.

Okay, I physically took out the web with a stick - mainly because I was curious. I then sprayed the plant with the dish soap and water mix. I am hoping it will not come back.

I noticed something when I took out the web. There are little brown spots in the middle of the web...eggs??

Could have been a spider's nest...I find them all the time nestled in the nodes of my Crassula.
