Stick it in the dirt. I've rooted tons of really big "logs". If a storm knocks off part of the brug I root it, and we've had some great tropical storms & winds the past few years. Rita really played havoc with the brugs, the pecan branch fell across the yard breaking off huge chunks of the brugs, some as big as my (a ladies) wrist. Trimmed 'em up & they did fine, rooted like crazy.

I have rooted some big ole stocks and they have preformed beautifully....didn't seem to make any difference..They rooted very fast...

Do you prefer the smaller diameter woody cutting, tho? Some of these "logs" I'm refering to need to be cut with a saw!! lol!

I like to send out and recieve above the Y cuttings yet still hard wood..whcih means they are going to be smaller.. But I don't have any problem with recieving larger cuttings if it is something I don't have or am looking for.

I've been trying to find "cutting" spots on all my young 1 year old plants - and they're few and far between. I have to stop because there aren't that many spots to cut, and they're looking rather. . . .scalped! (grin)

My favorite kind of cutting is a log! I lay it on it's side in the dirt and cover halfway. I've gotten up to 6 plants from a 6 inch log.

That's about the size of my wrist. (And I'm a 6ft tall, 260lb man.) I root whole trunks all the time. planting those back out in the spring gets me blooms in record time. The one shown above was planted outside on May 4th (2004) and I had my first bloom by June 7th. Then several flushes throughout the summer after that.

Hard woody cuttings are best. And after they get so big it's like they throw out roots in a matter of days.

I do that with a lot of my brugs. I take giant cuttings and have an instant tree that flowers early in the season. The only thing is that I don't get as many blooms per flush on newly rooted cuttings, even if they are huge. My mature plants will usually produce significantly more blooms per flush.

So, you're going to trim that way down and save your cuttings?

How far down are you going to cut? Just curious. . .

I rooted one that I had to get the saw to chop up. It does seem that size matters as the bigger ones rooted faster. :)

I have one that'll have to come down with a saw. It's about 3' to the first Y and I'm gonna keep a little of the Y with it. These monster cuttings are my favorites!

That sounds like a good idea. . .I can try that. Why not. Keep the pot - it starts from the 8" tall chop spot (like Ruth Ann does) - plop the tall piece in the BOB - yea, I'm gonna try that.
