Comments (3)I agree with what goodhors said above. Perennials and Ornamental Grasses do not work as deflectors I am afraid. Evergreens shrubs/trees, such as the ones that are either pyramidal or conical in shape, might work. You would have to plant them fairly close together to make them effective though. The upside to them is that they are natural and attractive and can handle being hit with flying objects, such as golf balls. They are green all the time and do not attract bugs. But there are many downsides. They are slow growing (unless you get ones that have been growing awhile at the nursery, but they are fairly expencive) require water and care, damaged by severe wind or winter storms. I would do something like the above poster mentioned. There is a local golf course that has tall timbers (such as the kind they use for telephone poles) running across the course with netting strung inbetween them to keep balls from going in the roadway. You could do something similar on a smaller scale with 4x4. Netting would have to be replaced every few years, but I think it is cheap. You could use vinyl lattis inbetween the beams. A plus would be that you could grow vines up it. Downside: it is about $20 a panel and it would get damaged after awhile. Hope you find something that works good. Comments (3)Tom: Your Crv would be adequate for homeowner plowing. It would be critical to have your transmission inspected prior along with the front end components shocks ball joints , tie rod ends along with universal joints etc. These parts are stressed to extreme limits when plowing. Normally shocks and other servicable units are upgraded to allow servicing monroe magnum shocks and moog ball joints are an example of better than oem units when a plow is to be installed. I believe your crv probably has macpherson stuts a form of coil over spring shock design which come in a cartridge style . These can be rather pricy but are available in a replacment heavy duty unit. The additional weight of the plow assembly really taxs a Utility Automobile front end . Have plowed commercially but always with a 3/4 ton Truck . My last being a F-250 Diesel and mu current a Dodge 2000 Cummins. Both have more than paid for themselves over 15 ys of service life when maintained and operated properly ....See MoreEvergreen Shrub - Golf Ball Kohuhu?
Comments (2)I grow 4 different cultivars of Pittosporum tenuifolium (Kohuhu) and I can't say I've ever noticed any unpleasant aroma from them. The flowers, which are inconspicuous, are only scented at night and smell sweetly like honey. I've never seen any berries/fruit either, but is quite possible yours may fruit more readily in a warmer climate. In any regard, the berries are tiny, not messy and as inconspicuous as the flowers. 'Golf Ball' is able to get quite a bit larger than 2-3' typically reported....5x5 is not uncommon, so prepare to do some pruning to keep size in check....See MoreGolf Ball Kohuhu roots
Comments (3)This is a form of Pittosporum tenuifolium. It's nice to have the scientific name to help you look it up. There is a reference I found here on Houzz/Garden Web that says hers got to 5'x6' and another person needed to prune it twice annually to keep it to 2' wide x 18" tall.
