Comments (2)If they are being eaten then that is not really stress in the usual sense, as in environmental stress. But like all plant these have parameters and will be stressed or damaged when these are gone outside of. Newly planted stock is more vulnerable than well-established. First find out if you have bugs and what to do about those particular bugs. That may take care of it. Otherwise I'd suggest you not amend planting sites in future unless you are going through the entire potential rooting area and modifying it. Do not amend backfill of individual planting holes, this is liable to produce problems with how water enters and exists them. Likewise there can be problems with differences in the texture of potting medium and backfill soil, until new plants have rooted out well....See MoreStrike it Rich companion roses

Comments (2)I have rose bushes "buried" in the middle of the Salvia beds. Everyone seems to get along and the roses flourish. There is also Cistus (Rock Rose), Agave, Lantana, Mint, Artemisia, Japanese Barberry, Rug Junipers, Lavender, Manzanitas, and many other plants in these beds....See MoreJack Frost - Need a Companion Plant for Potting
Comments (5)Louise: Thank you so much for answering my question. I guess a Hosta is out of the question. I do have about 5 Hostas and dug up one this year and the tap was pretty far down in the ground, I just did not know if all forms of Hosta grew roots the same way. Another question, I have a few Hosta planted in containers that are 12" deep in mostly shade. I do not have any that are supposed to grow over 16" tall. Is a 12" deep pot OK for these with their root systems? Sorry, I have unusual situations at my home that prevent me from putting some things directly in the ground. Do you have any ideas for my mostly shady area to companion with the Jack Frost? Thanks again :-)...See Moresage_lover
