I'm jealous of people getting all the rain. I'm on the coast and it doesn't seem like I'm getting much of it. Last night, I expected to get tons of storms but something held the storms back and they all died out in the middle of NC!

jqpublic, I've just figured out what must have happened. lindakimy and I have been rain-dancing like fiends, but we must have been pointed your way!

yeh its just crazy around here. The rains are going to continue into this week.

After the last year+ of drought, I will never again whine about rain (but I reserve my right to whine about anything else at will). I am even thankful when it comes down as hail.

I'm just whining, b/c it seems like we either get a drought or a monsoon but no semblance of normalcy. Sigh. Guess what its doing again. Raining...POURING. Hopefully everything won't be rotted to the core so that it will come up next season.

I'm a little below here, but we're getting poured on here too. Started first thing this morning, pouring. Then an hour or so break, and now pouring again, this time with thunder. I spent about three hours weeding yesterday. With the rain, the beds will be covered with weeds again by tomorrow. Sigh.

Darn. We were supposed to get all this rain. And I was counting on that for a shower Monday a.m. before work! But we've gotten a couple of little 5 minute things. Well...better than absolutely nothing.

Isn't it odd how uneven it is? I mean...you can't order it up like a sandwich at the drivethrough. You have to take whatever you get. Surely that must teach us patience or some good quality!

I'm just amazed that my poor plants are doing as well as they are. So far we have only lost one little liatris, all the flamingo celeosa, and a blueberry bush (and I really think that was grubs, not lack of water). I'm thankful, really, that it hasn't been worse. And there is hope. O.K....not much on the well digging front. (I could write a book.) But there is still a good chance of rain overnight and tomorrow.

I agree with you. My first year gardening in sand was a drought year too. Learned what my mother always told me when I was a child "patience is a virtue". I learned alot from last year. The most important was don't count on regular rain. The second most important was always count on hard work to pull you through. Adele

Here in Durham we got 2" of rain today. The only bad thing is that today was the day I was supposed to spray my roses for BS. Guess that'll have to wait until this stops (which doesn't look like anytime soon).

After watching half my perennials die in the drought of 2001-2002, I'll live. But yes, my backyard is turning into a pond.

Know how it feels if you're standing too close to someone who sneezes? Well, that's how much rain the sand hills area of northeast Columbia-Kersaw County seems to have gotten so far. Some rain is in the forecast for the next several days, so there's always hope.

We're getting measurable rain here in Charlotte but not anywhere near the deluge further east. Whoever has hydrangeas , they must be loving it.

well, at least it should be bringing our water table back up. i for one, am not going to complain. even with that 7" deluge last week, it didn't sit around long- testament to how deeply dry things had gotten. hopefully it won't make things so soggy that when we get stiff winds, trees topple like the yr of fran. i believe that's part of why she was able to do so much damage- we'd had record amounts of rain that yr, esp the month before. i do hope all of you who are still so dry get some of our liquid sunshine! it sure is no fun watching everyone around get it while it bypasses you.

Wow! The rains have been coming on and off but when they come, they're really pouring! The ditches are finally showing water so hopefully it means some trees and plants can get a big start on their own water instead of me fertilizing and watering them.

I got home from work tonight and my liatris and gladiolas were beaten to the ground from the deluge. My Hollyhocks took out a rose when they went down.

Everything just looks beaten-down. Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst day for the rain. Can't wait for this thing to exit stage right so I can prop up my plants!

We needed to fill the groundwater though...but did it have to take out so many plants? :(

My kids and I are trying to keep from going crazy being cooped up together, so we decided to have a rainbow party. We played out in the sprinkles this morning, searched for rainbows and are eating foods the colors of the color spectrum. So far we have had Red apples, Orange macaroni and cheese, and Yellow juice. A six year old and two and a half year old like, and maybe you would too! Let me know what YOU eat!!

Our N. Raleigh yard rain gauge - 5 inches from Alberto, 3.5 inches from that nasty long thunderstorm last week, 3 inches yesterday.....not sure how much today, but 11.5 inches plus is a bit more than needed! Things are growing at an Amazonian lushness (including some diseases, fungus, insects - Jap. Beetles, Mosquitoes, etc).

I got 10" of rain in about 3 hours on Monday morning, for a total of 14" over the past 3 days. Fortunately most of plants (palms, bamboo, bananas, gingers) love this excess moisture and will be growing like weeds.

It always amazes me when we have these rain threads how much difference there can be in just a small distance. Just 5 or 6" total here including Alberto and we are not soggy a bit. I'm close to Selma in Johnston Co.

I live in N. Raleigh, and we've had over 15" of rain since June 1. That number is conservative because my rain gauge was filled to the top at 6" on the day Alberto came through, and my gauge showed 3" when I returned home from a week of vacation (presumably some of the water evaporated).

Fortunately, my house is on a hill so nothing is drowning, but the rain has washed mulch out of place all over my yard. My grass looks better than ever and hostas are thriving. My biggest problem is keeping ahead of the deer with repellent spray because the rain washes it off so soon.

Well it's pretty clear today but steamy out there. The mosquitos are thriving and I have some mildew but the plants mostly look happy. The woodchips on my paths have washed all into the garden but that's ok. I'll take the rain over drought, but I sure wish we could get it more spread out. -Ais.
