No, don't use a towel..get a coffee filter, easier to handle..and put your seeds in it. Drop the whole thing into a shallow dish like a custard cup and cover with water. Let them soak there until they show some white bits. I pour off the water the next day and pour fresh water over them, but I use the same filter. I've had some in a filter for a week or more, and they are still good to go. But they are no longer in water, just the damp filter. In that case it's like a damp towel. But I'd start them COVERED in water for more than a couple of days. I'm sure you'll have great success as I did, unless the seeds are old. And you will know in a couple of days, I promise you. I just noticed looking at that pot, the new leaves make it look like dragon flies hovering..and I have it with the most beautiful little day lily tuft. Even now they are gorgeous to me! Just get a well draining good potting soil. You can set them out in the ground if you want once they have rooted well, but pots are so much easier to control, imo.

No ferts, Anna. Just a healthy top dressing of compost. I may hit it with some compost tea or fish emulsion if it starts looking sickly, but so far it looks really lush and healthy. I've only run the irrigation in that bed twice all year. Once back in May and just the other day. We had record rainfall in June, but temps and sun were way below average. July has been fairly warm and dry so far. If June had been warmer, to go with the rain, that critter would be over the top already. I don't know if it has a scent or not. All the other stuff that's blooming has my nose in an uproar.

Wanted to spruce the place up my 1st spring I planted a packet of MG I'M still trying to get rid of them 9 years later. I won't use chemicales but I start pulling in Jan when there's a warm spell and even in dec last year our winter was so warm. I weed eat them I mow them I dig them up to those who want them a 12 month 9 yr battle and they survive. Yes so pretty but wow agressive. Tree

Funny thou on how different they also grow depending on where they are located at. In the ground or pots...all day sun or more shade. Lucy
