Lat winter was my first with cuttings and seeds. For the cuttings I used no artificial lighting, I just put them on a sunny windowsill. For the seeds, I put them under fluorescent grow lights (the cheap kind.... about $10-$20 for the fixture with bulb) at night and in a window during the day, even skipping some nights under light because I didn't feel like moving them. The only brug seeds I had were sang seeds but my seedlings died when I moved them outside because I kind of forgot about them.

I use grow light for my seeds and cuttings. I have good luck.The grow light I have I got at wal-mart, its a small one for about ten dollors. It's my first time useing one i was reading about them to. I brought one and put my seeds under it. It does seem to help them get going.I also live in Fla,We don't have the cold like you do.hope this helps some.

I have used the shop lights set up a few years ago and plan on doing it again in the future..I had a bakers rack that was not being used so I rigged up 1 set of shop lights for each self..for a total of 3 shop lights...the lights themselves were one warm and one cool bulb in each set..my seeds that I started did really well ..tomatoes, daylilies and hostas...

I use grow lights in the winter when I am doing alot of seedlings or cuttings. I tried the led lights last yr for awhile because they are supposed to be cheaper and last longer but I didn't like them because some of the seedlings seemed like they were stretching toward the light too much (getting tall and skinny). There are more expensive,brighter lights but all I need them for is seeds so the plain old cheap grow lights from HD etc. suit my purpose.

I would try T5 lights on a stand that can move up as they grow taller. Should be around $100 at the local hydroponics store. Remember to put the lights as close to the seedlings/cuttings as possible without it feeling like it will burn them. You could probably put it about an inch or two away from the tops of the plants. While your at the hydro store I recommend checking out some of their high quality fertilizers and soils. Check out the Advanced Nutrients line for ferts. and for soils I like Botanicare aeration mix and Foxfarm Ocean Forest mixed 60/40.

Of course you could always go for 2 1000 watt metal halides on movers and keep all of your Brugs growing year round. That would only cost like $3000.

I used T5 lights from Lowes one grow light and one full sun light in a double shop light fixture on chains and I could raise and lower it as needed. Plan to add another one this year since I have more brugs.

I have two 1000 watt HID set ups but I have a number of plants. It's not $3000, more like a $1000 investment but worth it if you have a lot of plants. They work beautifully. I have some HO fluorescents that I use in the greenhouse because they don't put out heat like the HID bulbs do. I do like the HID bulbs better though. If you don't have a large number of plants then I would just go with some inexpensive grow lights that you can pick up at HD. You can also get full spectrum tubes that are made for marine aquariums but they are fairly expensive as well.
