POTD: Andrew's Gold made it!!!

Good Morning

I sure hope some of you get to sleep in.

Some of you get to play in the dirt.

Most of us will have time with family and friends together over the WE.

We will. Even though it will not be to much on a happy note. For it is the farewell ceremony for my son's company to leave for Iraq. But it is part of life and God will hear from me everyday to add him to the people to keep safe.

But DH, DH and I will leave for Houston in the Afternoon. So tomorrow is not going to be a picture, since we are in Houston. Ceremony is at 11 am and we just do not want the stress of making it on time on Sunday. So we make a fun Oma (grandma) and Opa (grandpa) day with Maddy.

Well, since I am not going to be here tomorrow...I guess I can blabber a little more rofl.

Let me show you first what made my entire brug season:

Andrew's Gold!!!!

For all the newbies who do not know the story: I LOVE Andrew's Gold.

First I bought it...one or THE 1st Brug ever.....because my DH's name is Andrew.

But when it grew into this beautiful plant...and OH MY GOSH...the COLOR>..the SHAPE>....the TENDRILS....But most of all that SCENT. I tell you I have not another one like it.

So when this one froze during winter storage and I really did not know if he makes it or not...I was devastated !!!

For the hybridizer, Brenda Delph is not in Business anymore. What a loss :-(

Most of the summer I was trying this and that to make him GROW at least SOMETHING. I dug him out and saw that the rootball was rotting away...affecting the stem. Broke the one half of the plant away and with just the other half of the now really open wounded stem...replanted him in a smaller pot.

It worked. He grew. He but on buds and yesterday in the afternoon the 1st one opened!!!!

OH WHAT A GLORIOUS MOMENT!!! If ever I am just keeping ONE Brug...this one is it!!!

Oh yeah I forgot...he also was the ONLY brug..who bloomed ALL SUMMER LONG. Regardless of the heat!!! And his blooms last 4FR!

I mean common...he is PERFECT!!!! But that is about all this Andrew and my DH have in common roflmao

and just like with Lemon Meringue...I do have the list on whom I promised a piece of him. It just seems like neither one of them are willing to give me cuttings this year. The LM one's I took a while ago...all rotted :-(

Well I leave you with so much joy and love in my heart and in this message now...that it should last through the WE for us all :-)

P.S.after seeing the picture I remembered to mention that the color will darken more and when he bloomed in fall last year...it almost turned orange

That was a good story Lucy. I'm sorry your son is going I wish him luck and a safe return. I will be seeing my son go when he's old enough. He is only a young marine now but heÂs is the highest rank out of his 3 platoons. He wants a career in the military. As for your story about your Andrew's Gold he is a looker huh! Why are you only gonnna keep one?

Hey Lucy, wasn't Andrew your 1st? We sure had fun with him last season. Yes, I remember the evenings you two had and the glasses of wine. lol He is a bloomer that's for sure and I'm glad he made it through the cold. We are going to warm up this weekend, I won't tell you how much and make you all jealous, I'll just say that I hope those of you still having cold weather get a break and warm up soon. lol....my mom and I always say...you can take everything away from us...but you can not stop us from laughing. It DOES keep you young at heart!! Kylie I sure danced SO much and now I know that I am crossing fingers AND toes in the future right away...cause it sure rained a lot here also. It was such a relief not to have to go out and water and the WHOLE yard is wet. Of course I was thinking about you. Hoping that you got your share of rain. PA so glad you got rain too and the rest who needed it! Haase the only time I burn candles is when I have a romantic evening with a glass of wine and Andrew's Gold by my side. Looks like the candles have to wait a bit longer. Besides, I do not turn on lights...I have these little night lights...on the floor. They really give you just enough light were you think wow...everything is a ok lol Lucy

Pretty double brug, Lucy. I keep looking at the double white you sent me and hoping for a bloom soon. May have to wait until next year now. You are a fun grandma, hope you post some pictures later. Tarantulas are beautiful and they are not poisonous like some spiders. There are many smaller spiders that are far more dangerous.

Karyn only if the Teenager will help in the garden lol And I take Jake (?) ...with his highs, he can do a lot of things around the house too...indoor painting is coming up and will you believe it...I am not done with the house outside yet either ha ha ha Glad everyone had fun. Cassie if I ever get to old to haul them in and out! Then I would decide to keep Andrew and even PAY someone to do the hauling for me :-)

had to come back on the computer to empty my camera so I can take lots of pictures over the WE without running out of storage space

Good Morning Lucy...I definetly know how hard it is to have your son leave for Iraq :( I will keep him in my prayers for sure!!!...Hang in there Mom, it's not easy, but has to be done.

On a happy note, my son made Sargent yesterday...Tonya's hubby..I'm so excited for you to meet him in November.

Andrews gold is very pretty...Does it stay that color or does it get darker??...If it stays that color, I'll have to add that one to my "want" list.

Good morning!

I know this will be a tough day for you. Thank your son for his service and let him know we will keep him in our prayers. Andrew's Gold brug is a beautiful color with a special story.

There are lots of wonderful plant and garden shops in Houston, hope you get a chance to stop and shop for a bit.

I love the way the tendrils fold over like weaving....color looks nice too. I think it's going on my wish list. Best to your son, hope he comes back safe and sound!
