Fertilizer for indoor evergreen clematis?
Comments (2)Kind of lacey, grey-green foliage? Probably one of the cartmanii hybrids. This plant is a bit tender outdoors even in our climate, but I've never encountered anyone that had much success with any clematis indoors long term. Any type of water soluble fertilizer suitable for flowering house plants should work - Schultz, Peters and Miracle Gro all make appropriate formulations. Wait util the plant is pushing new growth before applying. And you will most likely need to reapply periodically through the growing season. Containerized plants of any kind need regular supplements of necessary nutrients that are leached out with frequent watering....See MoreShould I Fertilize My Clematis Now & With What?
Comments (9)SUE!!..Hey girl..so nice to see you have emerged back to the forums just like Spring..even tho you might see only one leaf bud at the bottom doesn't mean there won't be more..just take your finger from the soil and follow the vine up and when you see the 3rd leaf axil..cut above it... "I have a Wisley, Elsa Spath, and Polish Spirit that I planted in the ground last summer. " Hard Prune all of them the same way we talked about in the previous Paragraph..then next year you'll try treating your 2's as 2's!..Polish Spirit is a 3 anyway... I feed mine 13-13-13 and they responded so well..it's also called Tomato Fertilizer or you can feed then with your Rose Fertilizer....Sue swears by Rosetone...I also gave mine their Spring Tonic!!..Alfalfa Tea..they are going WILD!!..This is year 3 for many of my clematis at my new home..so I am so excited you can probably hear me squealing with joy all the way up in Canada!!... Here is where I pruned my Clematis "Venosa Violacea"....Jeanne...See MoreFertilize Clematis with Rose Tone? Alfalfa?
Comments (7)I have some organic fertilizer that says it is made from beets. It says it is tomato food but also can be used for other plants including clematis. I gather that clems don't like high acid? I am new in my house and don't know my soil ph. I guess I can get a kit or something at the garden store? Obviously, I'm a newbie, so please be patient! Comments (23)In search of Alfalfa pellets last Spring, the only thing available are bails of alfalfa ~ I ended up using Tomato Tone 'til I find some. Meantime, I took a visiting Granddau to a horse farm for some classes this summer & found they fed their horses alfalfa mix ~ they gave me a couple of small bails for a few $$. After blooming done, pruned ~ soaked & clipped the smallish bail & surrounded the base of each of my clems. Is this how it is done if using raw/dried alfalfa & not pellets? Your thoughts please? TIA...See Morestevie713
