First clematis blooms for this year

I was so surprised to find blooms day-before-yesterday on Aaso for the second year in a row. It has been so long since I posted photos I have to re-learn how.

Also had Knockout roses blooming and some snapdragons that re-seeded for the 3rd or 4th year to start blooming!

I am thankful to see flowers blooming. And will be pleased to see them without the yellow-greenish pollen on them, which this year has been terrible due to our recent heat wave!

Wow- beautiful blooms! I am so excited that I didn't loose any clems over the winter, but all I have are teeny tiny shoots so far here in Colorado. It will be awhile before I see any blooms, so keep the pictures coming!

Lauren, You can look for bud formation at each leaf joint, where it meets the stem. This is where the flower buds will come from. When you first see new growth between the bract unions and the stems, flowers are only a month or so away. Sweet Autumn clematis are one of the latest clematis bloomers you will find. When everything else is done, Sweet Autumn is just beginning ! Enjoy. Suzy

OITGAD, maybe I can help you with the insertion of pictures. At least I'll try. First you have to upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket or picturetrail. It's really easy to do and when you get them uploaded, photobucket is the easiest, look at your picture and below it will be 3 lines of text. The middle one is the url. Highlight the URL and right click and copy. Come back to the forum and when you have your message typed just right click and paste the URL into the photo. *This is with Photobucket*. If you choose to use another web host then after you upload your picture you will have to right click on the picture and then click properties, copy the URL and then go back to your message and type [img src=this is where you right click and put your URL] where I have put the [ and ] you will need to change those to and that's it. Hit preview and submit. There is a test forum for pictures that you may want to try it in before you use the regular forum and people there who will help you to tell you what you're doing wrong if you have a problem. Mine has a lot of buds on it, but the plant itself looks kinda dinky.... yours is much more full and lush.. Do they need a certain type of fertilizer? I just gave it some Osmocote so far.

I did as recommended on this forum...the first couple of years prune them to get more vines. I fertilize the clematis (along with all my flowers/bushes) in February with 10-10-10 or 8-8-8. Then I try to get them fertilized again after they bloom. Sometimes I am a little late on this on!!! But I can say that following the recommendations that I learned on this forum has helped! Watering is also important. I do add pinestraw around mine to help conserve moisture.
