Overgrown mystery succulent

Hi there!

I bought a "succulent bowl" from Lowe's around eight months ago (some time in November?). It was doing fine until a few months ago. When spring hit, some of the plants started growing like crazy, and soon were way too crowded.

I waited much longer than I should have to repot them, because they were essentially glued down with rocks. I finally repotted them today, and now I need to figure out how to take care of them all!

I'm posting about one of the plant types in particular. I have several of them, and they're too tall. But because I can't identify them, I don't know the best way to cut them back. Help, please? :) I've included a link with more photos, including a photo of what the succulent bowl looked like when I first purchased it.

I dont have an ID, but I think the plant is etiolated. Does it get plenty of sunlight

It sits in a very sunny window -- a south-facing garden window -- but it was extremely overcrowded in the bowl with all the other plants.
Is there anything I can do to cut it back?

I just got them and they were sitting in about a half inch of water for about 3 days. I put some outside in the ground and am hoping for the best, while a couple I've got in a container inside, letting the roots strengthen and stuff and dry out. I live in southern Washington, so it's very rainy winters that frost on clear nights right now. which are few and far between.

Very nice plant. I agree with stefan on the genus. It could also be P. succulentum (bispinosum tends to have thicker, fleshier leaves). I don't know where you are, triffidmoss, but if it's cold, it's probably dropping into winter dormancy. Treat it like adenium---highest light you can give it, keep it hot if you want to keep it awake. Since you just got it, I suggest keeping it as warm as you can so it's awake for the transition to your house. If you want to see it bloom, it needs to be cold next winter (15C or thereabouts, even as low as 10C). I have my pachypodiums on the basement floor where I manage the temp at around 12C under blurples for 6 hours. They need a lot of light all year.

The plants with the white flowers you can trim like you would a tree. It will make fuller growth in a short time. It is hard to do, but because small plants of this pop up everywhere, you will need to weed out the opportunists. The plant with yellow flowers I have finally decided to remove from my yard because it makes rampant unstructured growth that I have not figured out how to contain. It is pretty while in flower but just grows into everything else. The purple plant in the 1st pictures can get very invasive. It is another plant you must define its limitations and cut back to them. The rest of the plants are much more self containing and slower to spread.

It does look like Kalanchoe tomentosa, but it is in very poor shape. Aerial roots are not much problem, but plant is really suffering from lack of light. It is also potted in wrong soil and way too deep inside the pot. Plantlets growing from some of the fallen leaves are normal - that is one way how this plant propagates. You can save it by using better potting mix, and rooting the cuttings. Plant needs to have leaves growing much closer together. Even tiny plantlets are way too etiolated - all of it needs much better light. If my plant, I would get new mix; make cuttings and try to root them. They need to be kept dry for a while, and kept in less light for a bit that should be slowly increased. Also, new plantlets can be potted up in new mix and they need better light to grow. Make sure you acclimatize them to more light, or they could burn.

It looks like Crassula capitella"campfire" with not enough sun to get any fire. It does look like it could take more sun. Maybe getting out of the overgrown condition will be enough. They do like to lean naturally. this gets a solid 7 hours of sun.

Here it is when I planted it , a year ago last June, so you can see the spacing and how much it grew. They always jamb those plants together. I never buy their combos. I like to make the choice and play with the colors. You could put all of the Campfires in one and it would be beautiful if you could get some sun on them.
