Shasta daisy always wilting

I searched the archives and didn't find anyone in CA with this problem. I've grown several varieties of Shasta daisies but they all seem to really dislike afternoon sun. Is this normal? I really notice it in the fall when I plant the the starts--even if I plant larger ones. They wilt very badly at about noon and then recover overnight and then start all over again. They have plenty of water and very good soil.

It doesn't seem to get better until the rains come and then I don't notice it again until April or May.

Does anybody grown them with morning sun only. I would think that would really cut down blooms. I'm in Santa Barbara and while it's been a hot year (for a change) it's about as mild as CA weather can be.

What am doing wrong? Kristine
