Ruth Ann- bringing in the brugs!

Ruth Ann, would you please post that link again, for those of us who need to know; those who for the first time need to know how to prepare our brugs to bring them inside, or for folks like me, who need a refresher!!! Thanks! I bookmarked your very good 2007 tutorial with photos, about preparing brugs for bringing in for the winter. I ran across it today.

For many of us, we are still waiting for our brugs to bloom lots more but if you have a first frost in your near future where you live, you can get materials ready now for the big move. Having done the last minute rush myself, I know it really is a whole lot less stressful to do the above , especially if you suddenly have an early first frost, like we did last year!

I'm pretty sure that Ruth Ann cuts hers back and stores them dormant. With the size of her monsters there's no way she could get them in without it. I'm sure she'll answer your question soon but give it some time. She's not online as much as some of us. lol

Those blooms are beautiful. I think I'll have to get another GL. I'm pretty sure that's one of the ones I lost over the winter. I'm so envious. You are in Z5 and already have blooms, I'm in 7a and only have buds! lol Karyn

Oh by all means Cheryl!! The cuttings you gave me last year did wonderfully!! I think they were the Charles G and the Frosted Pink?? I am following Jroot and Ruth Ann's lead on when to bring my plants in .. after all I am a newbie to these guys :o) Jonjon .. this will be my first year over wintering them .. and I have chosen to have them go dormant. If you would like .. I no long want to keep the little white brug. It was a tip cutting a received last year .. so it is bushy but little. I might keep a cutting or two but would perfer to have more color in my garden .. with limited space .. this great little bloomer is looking for a home. Email me .. if you would like to come and pick it up. My brugs really arnt all that big .. not like Ruth Ann's beauties .. A sport can come from anywhere on the plant I believe. Maya is one that I have that routinely sends out sports.At the moment I have a totally albino sport and a green on green variegated sport and then Maya itself has the green and white variegation. Even here I do not bring them in until mid October so you should still have time for one more good flush Ladies :))

This link is for bringing them in for dormancy for the winter. Dormancy is good if you have:
-low/no light
-a cool ( 10C or 50F) basement
-restricted storage room.

Thank you ruth ann. that link is for me then...I got all of the above :-(

But since I am in Texas..I hope we got a long time this year before we have to bring them in . Not like last year. I believe it was early November when we got the first freezing night.

Lucy, I have been caught over the years a couple of times by frost before I have gotten them in but with hacking them back so much it really hasn't mattered. :)

Please please please don't start talking about the 4 letter word (COLD) yet. I'm not ready to deal with it. As usual I'll end up waiting till the last minute when a frost is predicted to move and dig up my plants.

Those pictures were in Oct, 2007, I was 2 days late getting them in before the frost. :))

Ruth ann that breaks my heart. Looking at those frost bitten brugs :-( In my eyes, the weather is just not that predictable anymore.

Now listen to me Karyn. You really start laughing lol.
When we had a few night below 70 degrees,I got in a panic. thinking oh my Gosh, I got to bring em all in soon rofl.

After this long hot summer...temps in the morning under 70 degrees, felt like FALL is here already ha ha ha
