I don't know the difference and wouldn't know one from the other unless it's in the name, like Insignias Pink or Versicolor Peach, so no, I don't keep track. I just grab whatever happens to be blooming at the same time and use that. I don't think I've ever gotten an insect pollinated brug pod and I don't end up with that many even with hand pollination. I'd no doubt have much better results if I actually knew what I was doing. lol

I did have a question though, what is a sport? I saw it mentioned on another post, and saw it discussed on Brug National, but can't get a handle on what it is, exactly.

Ok - found a sport definition, sorry. And there's even one on THIS site.

Since I have Mutt 'n Jeff, Frick 'n Frack, etc. A woody side shoot from my plants would be fine to send out. (Be nice and big.) It's not like it's going to be an "aberration" of anything.

What's weird is that I posted an answer to "what's a sport" and my post also disappeared.

A sport seems to be just an offshoot, right? That may produce something different than the parent, and it's at the base? Or out of the dirt?

I've always thought it was the shoots that come up next to the main plant but not attached to the trunk a sport. They can look completely different then the "mother" plant. My African violets send out sports fairly often.

A sport can come from anywhere on the plant I believe.
Maya is one that I have that routinely sends out sports.At the moment I have a totally albino sport and a green on green variegated sport and then Maya itself has the green and white variegation.

Often, sports revert back to the original copy of the parent, especially if they are not stable. Axel Rose is a green on green sport of Maya that was stable and now has it's own ID.

RA is right that these can appear anywhere on the plant but some of these will not grow if these are albinos. We have been testing a TNN reverse variegation for several years and this year we have seen several different sports that she has thrown off. This year Shorty's variegated throw off a pure green one at the base which was just shocking to see, if it blooms I'll post a photo.

Thanks for the correction. I'd thought that the sports only came up from the roots. I didn't realize that it could be from anywhere on the plant. Ruth Ann how big is your albino sport?

Will you attempt to propogae it? Or will it just stay as an unusual feature of that plant?

That is really interesting that Maya created a stable different version of itself.
