Are there any healthy-looking leaf buds on the tree? If not, snap some of the twigs to see if the pith is green or brown.

My pink dogwood is just beginning, but my white dogwood shows no signs of waking up ... yet.

Maybe you have a late sleeper too?

OK, I checked again and there are some buds just barely starting to come out and there is green in the bark. Thanks all. I guess it is just a late bloomer.

Best way to check is to do a very light and small scrape of bark with fingernail and see what color...if brown, work your way down a couple of feet and try again. (At least I was taught that way as kid)I almost gave up on a Confederate Rose, but it's coming at last! Good luck with your tree.

I have a baby dogwood, too, planted last year, that's just now starting to show signs of waking up. And that's here on the - relatively - warmer coast of SC. And all the other dogwoods are in full bloom. So don't give up! I'd also give it a little fertilizer and make sure it's watered well, especially if you've had the lack of rain we've had here on the coast.

Probably the biggest thing I've learned with both flower and veggie gardening is - patience! Lots of things I thought I had lost or weren't coming up are now sprouting through - even some hibiscus and mallows from last year are sprouting down around the root systems - what a great surprise, as I really thought they wouldn't make it through the winter!
