We have had 2 bushes for about 8 to 10 years and finally they are producing fruit..a lot of it. So far, the squirrels have not caught on to the fact that it is edible.I hope they remain ignorant until I can taste some of the fruit. I have never tasted them and am not sure what to look for as far as ripeness.....This is the only fruit other than the pomegranates and the kumquats that the squirrels haven't finished off before we could pick it. The persimmons I brought inside to ripen before they ate them all.
As you can see, Kassiebum, I am no help to you..I am hoping to eat a few rather than get rid of them, unless, of course, you want us to send some squirrels your way? Lina.

Have you ever tasted guava jam? OUt of this world! Don't forget the guava is one of the most outstanding fruits on the planet for nutritional value. Guavas are high in Vit. C and are the only fruit thaT possesses the high value as an antioxidant. In other words, guavas are a super food, a super fruit. Why aren't you taking advantage of this super fruit, more nutritional than oranges. Would you throw away a bumper crop of oranges?

I also have a bumper crop this year. Most of the family just loves this fruit! So easy to grow--no spraying, no pruning, the fruit falls down when ripe, without splattering or injuring itself, how convenient can you get?

To eat, simply rinse, cut in half and spoon out the flesh. The shells then go in the compost. There are so many this year that I've been freezing batches after removing them from the shells. Last year I froze some, ate them several months later and they were delicious.

If there are too many guavas, give them to neighbors and friends, to a food bank, to a homeless shelter.

Our neighborhood yardcare workers from Mexico and Central America carefully harvest all the pineapple guavas if they know that it is OK with the property owner. If you have these kind of yardcare folks in your neighborhood, it should be enough just to tell them that they can have all the fruit. Expect your hedge to be totally picked clean, though!

I wish I knew your secrets. I had a bumper crop of nothing this year on my big pineapple guava tree. I even tried hand pollinating the incredible number of flowers. Nada. On the other hand, my strawberry guava went nuts. It makes the most beautiful, flavorful, ruby-red jelly so I'm somewhat mollified.
