identifing this mystery plant

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has a clue as to the possible name of a plant that I totally don't remember planting. Currently the plants are approximately 2 inches high. It is putting up a single leaf - it kind of reminds me of a lily leaf but wider? I know it's kind of vague but I'm curious and it's to dark to go back out to take a picture. So if anyone has an idea, great if not I'll post a picture tomorrow. Thanks, Beth

If you have lilies in the bed, esp. asiatic lilies, then you may have year-old babies. They have a fat, single leaf. If you carefully dig one up and it has a bulblet on the end - that's what you have. If you want more lilies, let them grow - you should get one or two flowers maybe next summer and certainly the following one. If you don't want more, weed them out.

Callas (if I remember right) have similar leaves the first year or it could be something like lily of the valley. I guess probably a lily too, if you have some nearby. Especially if you have tiger lilies as the bulbets easily form babes. -Ais.

Also, just to reiterate, the grass-like plant from the bulbs has *never* grown a flower, just the green grass. I don’t think it is fremontii, but there are a whole lot of somewhat obscure garden hybrids as well as a range of species and species selections that are short and have these cute little bells. Regardless, it is lovely!

It looks like kalanchoe, and needs much more light to grow more compact. How far from the light is it? Overall, they could grow over a foot tall, but should get lots of light to keep leaves close together. You can cut it and re-root the cutting. Leave rest of the plant (part with roots) in the pot, and it may continue growing. They root very easily. If you want to keep it short, regular pruning will help.

I've never seen either. I learned this genus from these forums, so I'm very happy to learn from a 'local'. Just going from on line images canadense appears more maple-like. Can you school me on the distinguishing features, Carol?
