Triad Palms? Ti Plants?Tropical success west of Raleigh?

Anyone ever tried growing a Chinese Fan Palm in NC (southern Triad area)? I believe it is not known for great hardiness, but was wondering if anyone had been adventurous and it worked.

-Same question for Ti plants-I recently bought a fuschia/red one I love.

Any advice on shady/hardy tropicals, soil amending, etc, would be appreciated. I love fuschia/rich pink foliage. I am not good with names, but already have:

Cannas-lots, including "phaison"

EE-Green & Black

Heucheras-lots, but would appreciate if anyone knows of fuschia/rich pink cults.

Zebra Grass

Many giant salvias of all colors

Hostas-several kinds

Bear's Breech-but it looks kinda dead

Camelia

Caladmiums

Malva

Not sure if hollyhocks/cosmos/zinnia qualify, but they're in the mix.

I plan to try ginger, turmeric, windmill palm, papaya (when I can find one), sugar, grocery taro, other funky roots, mango, avcado, basjoos, bamboo, etc.

I am curious to hear success stories from anyone, particularly in Triad region-westward as it is right on the border of 7a &7b. Thanks-K
