i need help identifying my plants!

i picked a piece of a plant from a building at school. got it to root up and it's been doing very well for the last 6 months or so. my mom recently gave me a larger but very similar plant. i think they are definitely either the same or close relatives.

the smaller one used to have the leaves along the spines but they all fell off just recently. is that bad or is it just a maturity stage? anybody got any suggestions?

Matt,

That's a succulent Euphorbia and a wonderful example of convergent evolution. It's likely from the Old World and is looking in the pink, metaphorically speaking, of health. The leaf drop is a normal cycle, as many of the cactoid Euphorbias grow vestigal leaves in the early part of their growth time.

For newcomers this site is actually pretty hard to navigate, edit, post and upload pictures. But since we are on the topic of Velvet Leaf and in light of the toilet paper madness because of covid19, I just gotta say.... If we ever DO have to worry about toilet paper shortages... (which is NOT at this time btw) I would just forage around for this plant! The leaves make an acceptable wipe (or so I heard).

I'll check both those out thank you! And yes I do need different soil for it but at the moment I do not have money to buy new soil and whatnot, as soon as I do I will be changing the soil up, I've done my reasearch just don't have the finances to do it at the moment thank you for the advice though! Rhianna, I just saw your earlier, identical post, unanswered after 9 hrs. Pls don't post twice, it's confusing, just pls, allow some time for people to respond, like maybe 24 hrs. pls. Then if needed, bring the original post back up yourself, & ask again or say bump & bring it back up for attention that way. 2nd plant is not H. limifolia, I'd suspect GasterAloe as well. Don't know what light they need.
