OT: POTD : Chartreuse Rose Hibiscus

Good Sunday morning everyone.

I know Pam just got done with working not to long ago. Sweet dreams.

Most of us will have family and friends over for BBQ.

I do hope that EVERYONE finds PEACE within and all around them.

When I saw it yesterday, it took my breath away! The colors, the shape...it all just looked PERFECT!

Had a bloom before from this little new co op plant...but it was distorted. Just like so many of our brug blooms that just do not like the heat.

So I am hoping that for all the HOT zones...with fall approaching, the blooms will have time to develop just PERFECT.

For the Zones that have to think about winter storage already, I sure hope that your angels did give you many wonderful memories.

Funny when I think back throughout the season.

Karyn with her bad luck and just look at all the gorgeous pictures she was able to post.

Shawn who thought spring never comes and have you seen HIS FLUSHES?

Then there might be some who missed out on blooms all together:

Eloise who could not take care of her garden, but she knows that we all will make sure next season she too will get to have beautiful moments with her garden again.

How about the newbies to Brugs.

Ingrid who I will always remember how much joy her ONE BRUG brought her and us, because it bloomed and it was her 1st time.

thank you, flowersaremusic z5 for taking time to post such lovely photos and thoughts. will look into them! am also considering arkansas blue star (a pale blue color). i am hampered by needing something compact (limited space behind the roses) and tough. i am in 6a and winter die off has been a constant problem; this year an entire row of mature plants didnt survive (including huge mature rhod, spirea, boxwoods) that were here when i got the house nearly 10 years ago. .

camp, I don't know if you ever saw it but I did wander over to the ARF in a weak moment last year & posted a tasteless ditty illustrated with some birds but it didn't last long, it was on a thread you started about posts disappearing. I am out of my area of interest with roses but I can just imagine the financial carnage. I've been ordering more grassy material to build this pocket prairie and wouldn't want to make those folks over there feel jealous & inferior over the big bucks I'm throwing around for 'Blonde Ambition' skeeter grasses, more bluestems and especially the very red Big Bluestem turkeyfoot named 'Red October' I can't wait to try out once I figure out a place to plant him. Maybe close to those new stiff blue Indian Grasses where they'll catch the late afternoon sun rays picking up that bright red? I'm already pining for next fall to see the results and bemoaning my lack of space. Greenhearted, my new fav name I ran across recently is Wanda Dudwash. Maybe she can be Fendler's girlfriend. The bladderpods are nice because they bloom so prolifically and early then dry up to almost nothing with the hard pods. You can easily snatch them up if you want to control next years crop. In their habitat, they will make the landscape a sea of yellow as early as February. Mine were in a seed pack I bought from Native Seeds of Sonoran Desert mix along with some other interesting off the beaten track wildflower mixes. I couldn't resist trying this very red Big Bluestem and I can't wait to see it color up next fall. This time of year I am always planning for next fall/winter interest. My condolences my dear friend. I guess my feeling to add that hug at the last minute was good. You and your family will be in my prayers. May God give you the strength to deal with the sudden loss as best as you possibly can. Karyn you are right....it is best not to know lol But 5 bucks round about for a nice sized hibiscus for me is a steal lol April it is long looooooooooooong ago since I went through the first day of school with the 1st born...but it is always harder on the moms to *let them go*. No matter how old they get and where life takes them, it never changes but if you love your child...you let them do their thing. That is IMHO. Barb the cuttings are on the window sill for now. Took as many as I could from the bigger bushes...the new ones...I will give them another season before starting to take things away from them. My neighbor came to the fence yesterday and told me that it looks awesome. Well and I am glad she gets to enjoy the flowers more close up now also :-) HOT....I need to get my stinky self in the shower lol Lucy

So, Do You Have a Plan? Blooms from Spring through Fall?

Yes, I actually do have a plan and while I am not there yet (are we ever done with a garden?) I feel like I am doing well in terms of continual waves of bloom. I have a few spring flowering bulbs here to start things off. I plan to put in lots more this fall. Going for crocus, Daffs and tulips. Then I have many spring flowering trees and shrubs such as serviceberries, crab apples, cherries and many types of viburnums. That takes me into Azealea flowering season and very shortly after the azealeas finish, the roses start their spring flush. Next come lily bulbs as the asiatic lilies start soon after the spring rose flush. Then the oriental lily bulbs. This year I added even more lily bulbs than last years 400 bulbs of all oriental and asiatic. This year lots of trumpets, orienpets and OT and LA hybrid lilies. All new to me as I used to have only asiatic and oriental. But I added some of those also. This takes me into daylily blooming time and some of the lilies and daylilies will be blooming at the same time. This brings me into August and I don't know how much bloom for august as I have added many late flowering daylilies last fallm should bloom late July and early august. There should be some late flowering lily bulbs also. For fall, well nothing unless daylilies rebloom. I have also been working on more bloom before the start of the daylilies and lily bulbs by planting lots of Siberian Iris, which blooms now here and am working to make a tall bearded iris bed for the TB iris I ordered comeing this july. Of course there are many other plants in the yard blooming at various times. I like Hollyhocks, Purple coneflowers, Butterfly bushes, Sunflowers, Mexican Sunflower, Catmint, Hummingbird mints, various milkweeds and lots of annuals such as marigolds, zinnias, cosmos, varius annual salvias, Snapdragons, impatients and more. Usually looks pretty good here.

Ooooh I do like that one very much. Have you ever ordered from this nursery? Thet have some gorgeous varieties. I stopped wintering tropical hibiscus over in the GH because of whiteflies but might have to start making exceptions.

I do hope we don't have such an unseasonably cold winter and spring this year and if I have another 3 day power outage during a stretch of single digit temps I'll know someone is trying to tell me something. lol

Good morning all. Lucy, what a beautiful hibiscus, and what beautiful sentiments. Your love of people and plants is so amazing -- thank you.

My plan is to stay home for Labor Day and work on some unpacking and relaxing. Yesterday was my GD's 3rd birthday party; later in the evening, I went with a friend to IKEA in Burbank and to Starbucks. I got home around 12:30 AM, the coffee kicked in and I couldn't sleep, so here I am feeling a bit tired. Ahhhhh life is good, LOL!

That is a beauty!
I'm spending my day just hanging out at my cousins' after feeding her critters and watering her plants while she's out of town.
May take a dip in the pool, I'm loving the quiet cuz when I get back home it won't be!
