EARTH DAY5 Ideas for a More Earth-Friendly Garden
Consider increasing the size of garden beds, filtering rainwater and using plants to reduce energy use
Full StoryI'm looking for a screen or light hedge for my front yard, about 6' in height, tolerant of full sun. I got 3 Podocarpus graciliors for the purpose, but now realize that it might be a disaster to go that route since they like to grow to 30' and I want to try to keep it to 6'.
Is Melianthus major a ridiculous idea for a light, tropical screen? What about Fatsia japonica? Can either of these be shaped at all - maybe made slightly narrower?
Other possibilities: Nandina domestica, Pineapple guava.
I'm in Santa Cruz CA, about a half mile from the beach.
And I'm completely new to gardening.
Thank you!
