VFT color is fading from the core

HELP! My husband and I have been trying to successfully grow VFTs forever! This time we planted our VFT in a terra-cotta/clay pot rested on a gravel filled dish with water in it. We used African Violet potting mix and only give it bottled water to keep the top soil moist, I'd say about once a day. We keep it outside where it's nice and humid (yuck). When we brought them home from the store, the stems were a nice green color and the inside of the traps were a nice red. Now the green color has begun to fade starting from the center of the plant as well as the red in the traps. Where did we go wrong? Oh, one more question...my cats ate the traps off one of the plants, should I toss it or is it still ok? Thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you soon!
