Ants eating my cactus?

mistifire

This area has a major ant infestation this year, they are in the homes of everyone I know. When I was admiring the blooms on my Claret Cup Hedgehog I noticed there were ants all over it, in the back where it is less visable there is an inch round hole and the ants are inside.

Are the ants responcible for this hole?

Come to think of it, we had a tunneling rodent of some kind that may have started the hole. (Gopher?)

Will the ants kill the plant if they are inside it? If they wont hurt it they can stay, but if they are a hazard to the cactus I want to find a non-toxic way to make them move along.
