Dust it with Rootone, let dry overnight, pot it up in your mix, let it set a few days, and commence daily misting of the stump. That sure looks like a healthy one - did it come from a different vendor, I take it (wrongly perhaps)? And if you can't mist it daily, don't worry - when you can will likely be fine, but rooting's going to be tough unless you can reduce the humidity.

Now you can work on your stump speech to convince all of America that 'Yes, you can jade.'

So, mist until you see growth (in the fall, likely). Then you can begin watering the soil.

Thanks Jeff, NO, this one did NOT come from Ebay or that seller,lol...it was from a nursery that doesn't ship (long story). Its suppose to be a Hummel sunset "stump"...but if it doesn't root I will never see it and know for sure.

The humidity is my biggest concern right now, that's why I'm wondering if I need to try rooting this in my FL room (inside with a vent and a ceiling fan) where the humidity is not as high as it is outside.

I could only advise - you can take that advice for its two sens' worth.

Yes, by all means, have some air current going - that will enhance its chances of rooting.

I potted it up in a semi-see through tiny pot in the hopes I might be able to see roots in several months? I buried appx. 2" of the trunk in the potting mix. Wish me luck...I'm going to need it :o)

Don't the roots need the absence of light to grow as they should?

That pot would make a fine way to transfer amounts of small top dressing from reservoir to container, but it's not much good in rooting succulents. A t/c pot the same size would be better.

Nancy....Take it out of that pot please....Jeff's two cents worth are far more valuable than that. You will know it has rooted once you see any growth at all on top.

They need cool dry nights and cool to hot days to root quickly. It might root for you, but the chances of it rooting in a climate like Arizona or even mine are more likely. I can root just about any jade cutting within a month or two that big and any cutting smaller than that within days.

I have seen them root on side walks and in places you would least expect there at my Aunts, but that was usually during your cooler drier periods. For some reason, my Aunt can't get one to root in your summer, so therefore she waits until about December before she even attempts to.lol

Thanks to both of you for your valuable advise...after some serious thinking that I would not be able to root this Stump especially as we approach the hottest and most humid months in the state of FL, I decided to take a friend's very generous offer of rooting it for me. So off it went to a much cooler friendlier Jade "rooting" weather. Will update in a few months to let you know how it went.

That is a very generous offer! I think your humidity, Nancy, is a real obstacle to rooting, too.
